While I've always liked 21c's 1:18 WC-57 in the Patton livery (its always sat out on one of my display shelves somewhere with a Patton action figure standing in it) that M3A1 Scout Car would have been a car cooler choice for 21c to have made. Yes it would have cost more, but with all the flags, guns, and armor plating, the thing looks like it could take on the German army 8)

General Patton had one of each type of vehicle at his personal disposal. A Jeep, a Command Car, a Scout Car, a half track and later a M-20 armored car to replace the Scout Car. He "personalized" each vehicle with air horns, curved fenders, windshields (M-20), rank flags, luggage racks, etc.

Of course that does not include his Cadillac Staff Car, his live-aboard towed van and trucks to carry equipment and pull the van. After all, he was a high ranking General and had perks.

Count me in for one of your Patton Scout Cars. Whenever.

As per our conversation, I am making one from a 1/6 Scout Car, but right now I am collecting info to add to the 1/6 Scout Car I just won from "The Cat Lady" who keeps coming up with 21C good stuff. This Scout Car she says was made by 21C as a Patton prototype to show at trade shows and then shelved it. Probably by lack of interest, after all, they didn't make the armored roof, they just added the Command Car and Jeep air horns, flags and bumber stars and just called it "Patton".

Again, as per our conversation, I missed the rear pointed .30 cal and the pedestal mounted .50cal is not on a tripod. The are support legs for the pedestal. And Steve built the special chair for Patton above and behind the passenger seat. That was new to me, I keep seeing Patton in his Scout Car in the same place, now I know he was seated.

Here is the 2nd pic I found:

Nice talking to you.

Pickel:

As we discussed, you mentioned that the Scout Cars had no rivets, but were screwed together and I mentioned that I had seen and handled a bunch of these screws. They are slotted oval head armored screws. The same slotted screws were used in the White Half tracks.

Today, I found a reference to these screws that says "The screws were all oriented in the same manner, with the slots running vertically".

That rates a WOW.

I have another three hundred magazines to go through for more detail on Patton's Scout Car. That does not include the Brit mag we both ordered and the two pictorial books I have on Patton himself, seeking interior pics.

I'll keep you advised.

This looks to be a real fun project. i can't wait to start on it.

A few months at least. :(

The screw slots lining up is something else.

I am sure you would see that on the assembly line now. :D
