Good for you! For folks who become so steeped in detailed knowledge about a subject that it is very rare for them to ever encounter a discussion about the subject of their passion in which they aren't the best informed, it's a challenge to keep an open mind when someone offers some tidbit that's inconsistent with an idea they've developed based on specialized knowledge. There's a fine line between being an expert and being a jerk. You just showed you're on the expert side of the lineJnewboy wrote:See I like to be wrong, its always good to learn something new.

Hey Z, if you're going to do that, you should repaint a 21st Century 109G-6 if you want to be accurate. A Tulip on a early G-2/5 would not.tko211 wrote:It's accurate. BBi at least got it right. My point, and it's only an opinion was that I would have rather had the black tulip version. Oh well, I can always buy one and paint it.

Yea, I agree and thanks. WWII is a such in depth war a person could spend their life on it and not know it all.gburch wrote:Good for you! My only thoughts on it were when you say your doing a "Hartmann" this is not what comes to mind. Hartmann's airplane was very distinctive and not doing that makes it a hard sell as a Hartmann correct or not. All the Aces started with commonly painted aircraft like this. People that just want a cool 109, its great!
Remember guys Hartmann is special as hes the highest scoring ace of all time but what makes him really unique compared to the other high aces in the Luftwaffe is he didn't rack up kills before Russia, and he wasn't even in service during the turkey shoot that was Barbarossa, he came online in October of 1942! and the war was over in May of 45, not allot of time to rack up 300+ kills. This is why I say this "G-2" may have been one of his first combat aircraft. It was not unique from many other aircraft from that same unit except for the specific numbers or letters. Does anyone even know if the heart was painted on the side of this one?
Its just not what you expect when you here 1/18 Hartmann....

Hey Jackson, I agree.
BBi should market this bird as "The rise of the Black Devil"
It may attract more buyers
Sounds like a movie title....

with the Factory Codes still visible on this bird I would agree... 10,000 Rubles for his head would fit in with the Rise of the Black Devil

Been gone for a little while, and coming back to see PH's work on the Horten, and a 1/18 Hartmann Me 109 is a pleasant surprise.
I would have preferred a G with the cannon bumps, and the black tulip nose, but BBI's existing mold doesn't allow this.
All the history buffs on here seem to agree that Hartrmann wouldn't have used the underwing cannons, but I can live with this inaccuracy. Just happy to see this great ace represented in 1/18.
I am definitely in for this one. Thanks BBI!

I felt bad when I read that after not abandoning his men at the end of the war like he was ordered, then getting to an RAF base, just to be handed back to the Russians to be beaten and tortured in a hard labor camp for years. But, the Russians really hatted him, it may have been what kept him alive in there, they wanted to beat him again the next day.
But he made it. You know ... you could do a Hartmann in 1/18 and not even use a 109.....
He briefly flew and trained pilots in the F-104 after the war and imprisonment....(He thought the f-104 was crap and quit over it)
Re: BBI Hartmann Bf109G Scheduled for October 2011
Wouldn't it be cool for BBI to add the humps for a later Gustov (and a tall tail) and repaint a Hartmann WITH the tulip? Then have Admiral Toys finally come out with the Hartmann F-86? A JSI F-104 in Hartmann colors? All this next to the original Hartmann G-2 sans tulip? You could call it the Hartmann Legacy Line?????
Put all this next to Barkhorn's Harrier (you know....his 302nd allied aircraft destroyed)!!
I can dream can't I?

Yes Barkhorns Double Chevron 5 Christl is a must have as well...I think I'm gonna do a Custom Convert into his Eagle

Re: BBI Hartmann Bf109G Scheduled for October 2011
bbi would have to make other changes to their 109 to make it into a G-6; like the tail wheel which was not retractable on the G6. I don't see them doing this. 21c should have made the tulip Hartmann as one of the several schemes they released. They were probably 'saving' it for a later time and then belly upped.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

The 109s are my favorite. Looking forward to having any new paint jobs in my collection.

That is a pretty cool scheme, and you can see its roots from his Me 109.

A possible paint scheme for the Admiral Toys F-4 Phantom, to go along with their Hartmann F-86
