Here is the original post .

Here are the on line directions

It is the 21 and my styrene has not come in yet

I e-mailed the guy to see what is up.

But I have other things that I can do. Like make the ribs. I will get started on those TODAY :D

The original post was getting long in the tooth so I figured on making a new one for the build.

This project is dedicated to my Dad. He served in the United States Air Force. He served to protect our freedom in the Korean War.
The Horten was his favorite airplane and since I have been a little boy it became one of my favorites as well.

Dad I hope I make you proud.

Actually we are family.

My Great Grand Father Benjamin Franklin Higgins ( an eye doctor )was cousins to Andrew Jackson Higgins. The boat builder

Ben hailed from Alabama and Andy from New Orleans . Ben came down during the war to see his cousin and Andy figured it was just another family member with his hand out and did not chose to see him.

Ben Higgins said screw you went back to ' Bama and never said another word to him.

The higgins boat would be a cool custom Pickle. I don't have anything for my marines to ride in when the assault the beaches!

Grunt was working on the Higgins boat and had a few snags. If he can not come through I will pick it up and go with it.

The styrene has yet to come in so not too much progress on the Horten.

But with or with out the styrene I will start this no later than Saturday.

I have been busy otherwise trying to get other stuff out .

Well I am not sure if you can call this a start but I have started the 229 project !!!!

It took 3 days of prep for about 1/2 hours worth of work.

My work shed is about 16 feet wide and 30 long . 9 foot ceiling with a 8 foot
" A " frame second story packed full of XD.

When I built the shop I had full intentions of working on granite projects. So I built the tables about 4 1/2 feet tall. It has always been a pain getting stools to fit that height.

So finally I pulled everything out and made the work area counters shorter to accomodate a standard sized stool. 3 FULL DAYS OF WORK

Well here it is 8:30 and I finally tore apart a 21st Me-262. to see what I can use out of it. After getting it open I was surprised to see that it has a second seat !!!

I guess they had all intentions of making the 2 seater when they design was made. Pretty slick !!

Also there is a big chunk of cast steel in the nose cone to keep the wheel down.

I figured they would have used lead but they used steel ( It is magnetic. I checked )

I know that I can use the engine nacells and if I modify the dash I will be able to use that as well. Looking at the seat belts they used the same type of cloth that I used on my m-134 amo belts but in white color. So guess what the 229 will have seat belts !!

I am still not sure if I will use the Me-109 main wheels or the 262's. The original used the 109's but I will check and compare and make that choice when I am at that point on the build.

So some work is better than no work at all. :?

Was it ever decided if you were going to offer a cheaper "wheels up" kit as opposed to full kit?

I finally got something started on the 229.

I have one of the wing panels 3/4 done !!!

Tommorow I should be able to get a good start on it and maybe have something to show !!!!

I will do 2 vesions with and with out gear. It is too early to put a price on the gearless vesion but it will be cheaper.

The landing gear may be the most work on the build .

I finally have something to show !!!

Here we have a size comp with a P-38 :D

Here we have the bottom with the brass tube that will be casted into the wings.

This will give the wing ridgity as well as hold the wing in place.

wow, that's interesting. It's a smaller aircraft than i imagined it to be. The lucky guys that are getting this are going to have quite a unique addition to their collections.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

I think it looks awesome!!! Im so happy!!! :D :D

I love the size, looks perfect, its not huge but its nothing to sneeze at, the P-38 in 1/18 is not tiny by any means.

You are doing a great job Mathew!!

Pickel, that looks great!!! I'm also surprised by the size comparison between the 38 and 229.
The what if factor of the 229 is very intriguing, I'm glad You chose to do this project.
I have nineteen 1:18 aircraft in my XD collection but none have interested as much as the Horten Ho 229.
I can't wait to see the different paint schemes and maybe dioramas folks come up with......... :)

Great to see some progress on this PH. 8)

This is going to be an incredible aircraft in 1/18 scale, and really is a fantastic choice.

I hope it turns out as well as all the hype behind it, and it is priced so that I can get one.
