Hey Guys,

I see my work slowing down POSSIBLY.

In 10 days it will be a full month since I have worked on this project.

It looks like I have another full week or so then hopefully I will be back on the Horten.

I am trying to get my back orders out as best as I can. I have a few kits to make and I will be close.

Look for an update on Friday for the orders ready to be shipped.

With all of the things going on in life this project has been sitting on my shoulders like an angry monkey.

though you heard it so many times, I have to tell you, that you are doing an amazing work! Constructing a model by scratch just with the help of plans is outstanding. I have to ask you something: where did you get the plans and cutaway-drawings from, for example the one from your post of May 21, 2011? I am looking since a long time for plans with original measurements for the He 219. I had a conversation with Dr. Koos, the so-called "Heinkel-Expert" in Germany, but even he couldnt provide plans with measurements. So maybe you could give me an advice... I would appreciate...Bye for now, Chris

Thanks for the kudos.

Here is the book. It is the best reference on the 229 as far as the Owl goes I do not know.

I am not sure what you will build your model for . To fly ? Static ?

In some of my past ( almost all ) I get a model and scale off of it. 1/32 or 1/35 is better. Anything smaller is hard to work off of.

Some of the parts I actually trace and enlarge to 1/18 scale. To make a template of the parts.

If yo get a model and trace the wing , fuselage or what ever. Make some cross section marks of were you want them. Cut the model right were you made the marks and now you will have the rib outline and were it goes.

thanks for the quick answer. Well, I don't want to build a model from scratch, I am just very interested in the He 219 and collecting, "hoovering" and inhaling anything which has got to do with this plane. So getting original measurements from the owl is quite difficult (or seems to be impossible). On the other side, may be you know, I got the owl in 1/18, and want - if necessary - "optimise" that model cause some things are wrong on it. But I think the reason for it is, that there are very rare original measurements known. In 1945, Germany was leveled and on the other side the He was not in the focus of the allies like the jets and so on. But I'll stay tuned...may be I should get in contact with A. Bentley, take my measuring tape and fly to the NASM, or knock on the door of the Heinkel successors...there is somebody out there, who has the answers...wishing you further fulfilling hours on your great work and thanks. Right now work is starting to stack up in the granite shop. That means that I may get a few days to get back on the 229 !!!

Probably on Wens to the end of the week !!

This weekend will be spent to hopefully trying to get the last of my orders out so i can spend the time that I have on the 229 project.

Just watched a re-run of that show on the Science Channel where those guys build a full-scale HO-229 replica (with the help of Northrop-Grumman) to test its stealth properties. Got me thinking about the coolness factor Pikelhaube's kit is going to have. Can't wait to see the finished prototype!

I have caught up with my back orders. Except the Indy sidecars.

That means when I get a break from my real job work on the 229 will commence.

Work will resume on the Horten next week.

My son will be back to collage and I will do my best to put at least 2 hrs a day into the project.

I am booked solid this week and next with my real job and nothing after that.

But by having my son gone I WILL work on the Horten as stated before.

Today i will work all day but I need a little input from you guys.

I am at the detail stage in the project . Panel lines etc.

Around the engine nacelles there is a pronounced strip of metal ( fairing ) it also looks like in the jet exhaust area as well.

Also all of the access covers should be raised as well.

If all of these details are raised.

I am thinking of doing the wing panels in the like.

The drawings I have the only panels on the wings are 1/3 of the way back from the leading edge of the wings.

The reason they are there is because that is the location of the wing fuel tanks.

So should that area be flush with the wing skin or should i wrap that area with thin thin styrene ?
