remove JSI F-14 forward fuselage?

Post by dragon53 » Sat Mar 19, 2011 1:38 pm

On the JSI F-14, is there a way to easily and safely remove the forward fuselage/cockpit section off the main fuselage/wing section?

I thought this had been discussed some time ago.

I spray silicon before I put it together. Then I carefully use small screw driver on the bottom. Wiggle the screw driver in the crack in a spot you really can't see while pulling. It should just pop apart. Just go easy so you don't damagae the plastic on the bottom with the screw driver.

I just firmly grabbed the plane and pulled the front back off by pulling straight out and wiggling it side to side at the same time. It did come out but it was quite tight. On my Jolly Rogers it actually broke a tab when I pulled it apart. It’s a tight fit but it will come back out.

Remove the battery cover on the front nose section" even all of the non battery operated ones have it too! Once you have removed the cover take t a butter knife and try to wedge it in between the two halves...easy, peasy
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

This is the method I used when I repainted my spotcat. Worked great.

GUYS:

Thanks for all the tips.
Here's the easy way I finally got the forward fuselage off: I sat down and place the entire F-14 on its tail (like a rocket on the launching pad) with my knees holding it up. I then pulled the forward fuselage upwards (like the rocket blasting off), and it easily came off. This sure beats the earlier attempts where I had the F-14 lying flat on the table as I tried to pull the forward fuselage out horizontally.
The F-14 is headed back to Merit so I had to disassemble it for shipping.
