1/16th Scale WWII Vehicles Pictures

Post by Panzerpaul » Thu Jan 27, 2011 11:20 am

Does this 1/18th forum topic permit discussion and pictures of 1/16th scale WWII vehicles and other models? Are there any members on this thread from Europe? I'm seeking info on 1/16th scale diecast German vehicles, and am hoping that European members can give some help. Thanks PP

This forum is called "Small Scale". We do have discussions of 1/32, 1/18, 1/16 and even a few on the "Dark Side"..... 1/6. We only ask that you be civil and we believe that "The only stupid questions are those not asked".

1/16 has always been a bit of a bone of contention here in the 1/18 forum. But during these slow times, i have no problem with it being discussed....it's a close cousin to 1/18.

If 1/18 was cooking then 1/16 discussions might be less welcomed but that's not the case.

Thank you all for the reply. I don't know if any of you are the forum administrator, but if so and if you wanted to set up a 1/16th thread (instead of using the 1/18th), then perhaps that would be better.

I am the CO of one of the many 1/16th scale RC tank clubs, we've been in business for 10 years and have our own battlefield, upon which we set many dioramas and static vehicles. I have been making 1/16th soft skin models (mostly of American trucks, jeeps etc, and would be happy to share pics if anyone desires to see them), but am struggling with something to start with for German transports such as Opel Blitz, Mercedes Benz, MAN, Krupp etc etc in 1/16th. So my purpose is to hopefully draw info from your European (specifically German) members as to what is out there in the way of diecast trucks. We here in the USA have a good compliment to start with (Hwy 61 diecast trucks mainly, along with a fair amount of 1/18th WWII plastic stuff) and I would like to believe that there are similar diecast model companies in Europe.

So, I will wait a couple days for a decision on starting a new 1/16th thread, before I start asking for help. Thanks very much, Paul (PP)

I would be interested in a 1/16th area, but not as a RC type thing, nothing against RC, I have four 1/16 RC tanks and really enjoy them.

I just enjoy seeing models of different scales and 1/16 seems to be thriving right now, right now I'm waiting for Heng Long to release their Kingtiger, not as much for the RC part as for the size of the tank 8)

I'd create a photobucket.com account for posting images. They're quite handy.

ok, i've moved the 1/16 tank thread from off topic to here and made it a sticky. There seems to be enough interest to justifty it. It's not disimilar to my own r/c aircraft sticky thread and will no doubt prove more popular.

Well I'm ready to take a shot at this. Signed with Photobucket....uploaded some pics and let's see if I did it right. For starters, a little history.

I'm CO of a local RC tank Club in 1/16th scale. We have a permenent battlefield which includes many buildings, trees, bridges and static dioramas to enhance the feeling of WWII battles. We have taken a lot of pictures over the years, and I can share some of them as time permits and if members desire to see them. We strive for as much realism as possible, again to add to the feeling that one is actually there in miniature. Normandy is our basic theme.

The first 3 pictures are of a German Ammo Truck, very similar to the one seen rolling up to the 88 guns just before the grand finale, in "When Trumpets Fade". The model began as a 1/16th Highway 61 1940ish grain truck. Highway 61 is an American diecast company. The model was stripped of its orginal paint and painted Panzer Grey, heavily weathered and all the ammo boxes were cast out of resin.

Lets see if these upload and if so, I will add some more.

OK....we're in business.

The next truck is a Highway 61 Ford stake bed truck...1940's also. Scratch built side panels and a canvass top were added. Again stripped and repainted and heavily weathered with chalks, then over sprayed with Testor's Dullcoat.
For those that don't know, there were Ford factories in Germany in the 1930's which the Nazis took over and used to equip their armies. So you can find a lot of German Ford transports.

Those are great, I wish I could find a good deal on those Highway 61 trucks for customs.

Next are American trucks, but one I forgot of a German. Bet most of you know this one as a 1/18th scale Indiana Jones Cargo Truck. Weathered with stowage added. Next to it is the ever famous 1/18th Kublewagon.

Image

The American ones are in a convoy, with the lead being a 1/18th and the rest Highway 61 converts.

Oh BTW....that is a captured German in the first few pics. He was hungry and decided to cooperate.

Not long after the truck convoy went by, a Jeep weapon's platoon rolled past. As many of you have no doubt noted......the soldiers are 1/18th scale. They fit well inside or out.

Hey PanzerPaul! I've been a big fan of your work for years at RCU and wish I could get my ass out to your field sometime to boost the Allied forces. Hopefully you can help show people that their hobby is not dead, it just moved up a tad in size. The RC side has known for many years how well 1:18 support vehicles and troops mesh with 1:16. ;)

Those pics are awesome. How much bigger is 1/16 to 1/18? 1/18 fig scale is about 4" so what about 1/16? Is it a real big diff. Can someone post the comparison. Pleeeeeeaaaaaasssssseeee!!!!!!!!!!! :D
