Schleich Heroes series

Post by aferguson » Sun Jan 09, 2011 2:56 pm

Schleich is coming out with a new line called Heroes, which has warrior figures from different era. So far there is a nice roman, spartan, ninja, zulu, viking and a war elephant, although it looks a bit strange to me. Due to be released this fall.

You can see them here, preveiwed with the other new schliech items coming this year.

edit: he ware elephant is pretty good. Other than it being white for some reason. You can buy seperately a war basket for its back which has an archer and spearman in it.

Pretty nifty. :)

Did they used to coat them with clay dust or something?

hm.....that's a good guess. I don't recal ever seeing a picture of one like that but it's an odd error for them to make. We'll see what the finished model looks like.

My guess is this.

They were painted or dusted to maybe look like a ghost . Also to make them look bigger.
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

i think i found the answer. In some Indian cultures back then, white elephants were considered divine. So either this is representing an actual white elephant (they do exist but are rare) or it represents a regular elephant painted white, which is more likely. The warrior figures that go with this piece do look Indian to me, but i'm no expert.

They probably represent elephants from around the time of the invasion of India by Alexander the Great...but again that's just a guess.

I don't think I have ever seen a picture of a war elephant

I have a book on war elephants. The Indian elephant was the preferred one although smaller than the African one. Blackhawk make a 60mm one, not quite 1/18. Cheers, Robin.
