Custom 105 Howitzer Prototype Started Pics !!!

Post by pickelhaube » Fri Oct 22, 2010 12:47 pm

Well Guys here is my other poll.

What WW2 custom do you want to see next ?

1. Panzer custom any of the 3 I mentioned. This could be a poll within itself

2. Hanomag " B " back date. I will make the rear and other details to change a " C " back to a " B "

3. Jumbo Sherman

4. 105 Howitzer

I will do either the WW2 or modern custom depending on popularity.

OF COURSE THIS WILL BE AFTER THE T-34 !!!!

I do take these polls seroiusly . The winner will get built

Well, while a Stug IV modification that could go on one of theose psuedo-panzer RC vehicles would be great, a 105mm howitzer would be even more welcome. The 1:18 world has a German 88mm gun and Pak 40, but all the Allies have for artillery is a quad-50 trailer.

I voted Panzer IV.

Although not an armour guy, especially in 1/18, seems the best choice.

Just my uninformed opinion.

I voted for a 105mm howitzer. For a pattern, Dragon Models (DML) released a really
nice one in 1/35th scale about a year ago. The 105 was the standard divisional artillery for US infantry divisions from early in WW2 through Korea. In about 1959 the weapon was changed from Howitzer, 105mm M2A1 on Carriage M2A1 to the "M101". M101s served through Viet Nam both with US and ARVN forces. The US howitzers often had their shields removed to lighten them for helicopter lifting.

By the way, the US Army used the carriage, breech, and recoil mechanism of the 105mm howitzer mated with the barrel of the pre-war 3" AA gun (the Army version - not the Navy version) to create a towed 3" antitank gun. Towed 3" guns were used by the Tank Destroyer force ("towed TD battalions"). At DDay about half of the TD Battalions in Europe were towed and half self-propelled (M10s). As the Army found that the towed TDs were not a good idea the units were converted to SP's. The last major use of the towed tank destroyer was the Ardennes campaign. The gun was good, but it was so heavy that many were lost because they couldn't be redeployed. The 3" guns were pulled by the M3A1 halftrack. To make the howitzer into a 3" AT gun M6 all that is really needed is the new barrel, a new gun shield and a couple small details. I'm just offering a thought.

I realize a Hetzer is not on the list and the T-34 is being built, I really don't understand your post?

I was just stating that a Hetzer would be nice and I realize the poll is over, sorry if I upsetted you.

I'm far from being upset, just though you might be confussed about this being a poll, which i don't think is over yet, instead of a new full build wish list. :) :)

Your right, my apologies, I thought this was a done deal with the 105 winning, working twelve hour midnights, I should pay better attention.

With that said, can I vote for the Hanomag again? Clam-shell doors and all, what a cool custom and I bet we all have a few just dying to carve on.

Sorry Pic, trying to Hi-jack your thread, just send one of those T-34s to take care of me

I will never do this again if only you send that Hetzer prototype in the corner to me, in fact this whole post will go away with the prototype and a few Hanomag clam shell door kits.

We know they are out there and you are hiding them, get this Russian T-34 behind you and you'll understand.

This whole line of BS isn't working is it? Okay, build a 105 for the masses, but please remember us , the poor , decrepit, we still seek a Hetzer or really anything really neat you decide to build, honestly we are a easy lot to get along with.

The Hetzer would have been made but the T-34 won out in 2 polls. Heck I even have the wheels made already.

Well for now the T-34 is crusing as the full build dejur.

These polls I have up now now are for the mod kits.

I know most guys can not afford the full builds so that is why I offer these short kits.

I'm much prefer the artillery, like 37mm、57mm anti tank gun or 155mm Howitzer.
I'll be busy to making figure too.
Have fun with toys forever!

Well it looks like the 105 won hands down.

That looks like the next quicky mod after the T-34.

Thanks guys.

Don't you all wish the big companies would do this?

I know I do.
