Re: 1/18 T-23 Turret Project Build is done ready for moulds

Thanks guys so the 1/18 scale antenna should be about 6 inches tall.

I have had a few guys ask me. I could build the turret cut off and reinstall my glacias mod and put a OD green paint job on you FOV Sherman . All for $85

So That will be T-23 kit ---------------$ 75
Correct glacias kit --------------------$ 35
Paint ,build , customize FOV Sherman ---$110
Shipping ------------------------------?

With the glacias mod you will get all of the lights , light gardes and the rest of the do dads that come with the glacias and hatch area. I will even burn off the aplique armor on the sides to make it " correct " .

I think $85 is a bargain for a turn key job. But you will have to detail, weather and insatll your decals yourself.

If you do not want the full build I could customize your FOV to accept the glacias kit ONLY for $20.

So that is modify the FOV Sherman glacias w/ glacias kit ----------$25 labor only.

I am now doing all of my kits the same way now. I build and paint all of them . As a rule of thumb I usually double the price of the kit and you get back a model ready to detail and put on the shelf  :D :D :D

I am almost done with the moulds . The turret sure used the RTV.

The turret mould is as big as 2 cigar boxes stacked on top of each other.

I should get them done on Sunday and chances are real good that I will start casting.

The Saints game is at 3 in the afternoon.

I need a show of hands who wants the panzer style muzzel break.

If nobody wants it I will hold off on casting it. I still need to rework it to a U. S. muzzel break anyway.

1) This looks so good that I may need to get one, and I don't do much 1:18th (but I really like Shermans!).

2) I think the M1A1 gun looks best on this tank - that is the gun with a protective collar but not a full muzzle brake. The muzzle brakes came fairly late (1945) so this tank is more appropriate for anything from the late summer of 1944 onwards with the M1A1 gun.

Do I PM you to set up an order?

I tell you what I will do.

I will sell the muzzel break as a $5 option.

There are only a couple of guys who want it . The majority do not .

So I will let it ride like that . The basic kit has the sleave and for the muzzel break will be a $5 option.

You Sherman guys may know better but I think that the muzzel break was used in the very last months of the war but was used through out Korea.

I was trying to get caught up on some back orders .I built the mod for the FOV M4A3 so I know how to cut up the model. But I figured you guys could use a guide line to fallow. So here is a little help.

The cutting and glueing of the new pieces takes less than an hour. So here goes.

1. Clean all of the flash off of the glacias and hatch plate resin pieces.

2. Measure 33 mm from the edge of the glacias back toward the back of tank body. Draw a line across the tank.
THIS IS THE ONLY PRECISE PART OF THIS MOD. SO DO IT AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN.

Image

3. Next using the spiral cutter on your Dremel cut out the turret hatches as a guide. Cut out the mg as going about 10 mm wide to the left. Cut off all of the lights and light gardes. Shave off the left side air vent.
NEATNESS DOES NOT COUNT HERE. EVERYTHING WILL BE COVERED UP.

Image

4. Now cut across the tank at your 33 mm line. Use the weld seam on the side of the tank and cut toward the front of the tank for the hatch are piece. Cut about 5-8 mm past the angle of the glacias and cut across the tank parreling the 33mm cut you just made.

Image

5. Shave off the rivets on the flash lip on top of the tranny cover.

6. Glue ( CA glue or Super Glue regular plastic glue will not work on resin ) blocks about 2 1/2 to 3 mm down fron the top of the tank.

Image

7. After glue has set ( I use the zap kicker to instantly set the glue ) test fit the hatch area. Tack glue it in place

Image

8.After tack gluing the hatch area in place. Test fit the glacias making sure it fits. It should fit right on the sloped area. You may have to cut a little more plastic so that the tabs on the bottom of the part clears the mg area.

Pic is a little fuzzy .But you can tell what is going on.

Image

9. If everything lines up glue it in place.

Image

There you have it.

The total cut and install will take less than an hour. :D :D :D

All of the orders have been sent.

Everybody should have gotten theirs by now.

I guess it depends or your mail system.

I sent another package to Canada on the same day. It took 2 weeks !!!!!

I received mine a week or so ago. I just haven't had any time to do much. I have the M4A1 hull, the Fiefly set and the T23 turret unopened. They were supposed to be winter projects but between work and a reoccuring cold, I haven't done more then sleep in front of the TV. LOL

I have my build and it is a terrific Sherman. Even found a pic with two machine guns in front of the top hatches, a .30cal for the commander and a .50cal for the loader and I just need the mg posts, some decals and stuff hanging on the turret and I'm in business. I'll post pics when it's done.

Just a great job Pickel :P

I am not sure of the T-23 turret but the Jumbo Sherman molds are still fine and I will be revamping the M-10 .
