Hey, guys, I guess I am actually considering this piece. The t34/76 is a must have in any scale, but especially 1/18. I don't collect 1/18 scale at all (except a few aircraft), but looking over the other customs, this one is going to rock.
I am coming from the 1/32 scale, so maybe you guys can help me understand how this works-- pickelhaube will help with purchasing; looks like there is a downpayment.
But, what are the additional costs, such as paint and those large custom decals?

The good thing about the T-34 there were not too many markings.

Mostly propaganda slogans. Those can be painted by hand.

The Germans and the Allies had the stars and crosses. So hopefully decals will not be an issue.

Not sure about the Ruskie green . I imagine that Model Masters or Tamiya will have that.

Something this size will take about 3 -5 bottles then you have the super glue ( CA glue ) and the putty.

Losts of putty and sand paper.

Remember to wash and prime before you paint.

Not to much to report on the T-34 project today. I am working on the bottom hull now and hopefully I will start on the top hull Wends. :D

Question about the T-34: is only one being made for the lottery or will this be a production piece with a kit available for purchase?

While the potential price does frighten me, I may be in on this if it will be available.

What ????

I am not sure what you are asking.

The lottery ( if it happens) will be for a kit not a full build.

As always and for years now I do accept lay-a-ways .

It order for the contest to happen I need 15 guys to anti up.

Still need 9 more to go.

This will be the only 1/18 scale T-34/76 on the planet so if you guys want to take the chance now is the time.

As stated before if you do not win the T-34 kit, the $50 will be your deposit so everybody is a winner !!!!

I almost have the lower hull done and have started on the upper hull.

No pics yet but by Friday I should have something to show :D

Yeah, I just saw that my question was a bit unclear - that's what one gets for trying to think complex thoughts after a long day in the office

Basically just wanted to know whether the T-34 would be available outside the lottery and you answered my question. Can't wait to see the progress pics :D

So far 6 days worth of work. I think that I may just do single track links. They are coming out great with almost no flash.

So far I have the wheels mounted on the bottom hull which is almost done. I started the top hull and it almost looks like something.

wow, i don't know how you do it Pick..

this one project will serve you well though. You'll be able to offer /76 /85 tanks plus su-85, 100 and 122 with not a lot of extra work. Plus a myriad of other little changes like flamethrower variants, if there's interest.

Thanks guys for all of the kind remarks. It meens a lot. There sure is a lot of work that goes into these things.

Sometimes it seems that it is not worth it. But with remarks like this it is what keeps me going.

My regular work is going to be heavy this week so I will not be able too spend the time on this project . I will fit in as much as I can.

Plus my list of orders is growing and I need to keep those guys happy.

I am going to try and start the turret next. I need to get off of those hulls for now. Everytime I work on them I find something that I need to do before the thing I have done already should be built.

So it is , built it. Man I need to do this first !! Cut this off now build that on . Now repeat.

There is only one other Russian tank out there in 1/18 scale.

It sells for $300 and has been around for some years now.

I think the guy made either 300 or 500 of them and they have almost all sold.

So I have a price set for mine at $300 as well.

Here is the old poll that I ran.

The T-34 won !!

I worked on the turret today.

MAN IS IT SMALL . WAY SMALLER THAN ANY GERMAN OR AMERICAN SHERMAN TURRET.

It is a bit rough but I may have something to post tomorrow.

I did not much time at all this week to work on it.

But I think that I may get a few days to work on it next week.

I worked on the turret some more today and have something to show for it. Man this is a SMALL TANK.

That turret sure must have been tight during the war. I guess that is why they moved up to the upgunned and larger 85 turret.

Image
Image

Here is a size comp next to my T-23 turreted Sherman.

Image

Here it is next to a Tiger. Even smaller looking without the fenders.

Image

Here are 1/16 scale Trumpeter T-34/85 and FOV Tiger mrtsl diacast for size. Even with the 85 turret it is still small looking.

It looks like the top of the 34's turret is almost even with the bottom of the Tiger's turret.

Amazing!! The shape of T-34 almost appear, the track links and road wheels are the most difficult parts I suppose, really excited to see the tanks coming up! You are truly a craftsmanship.

Thanks Man !!

My regular job has been keeping me back from working on this but i got a chance to work on this the last couple of days.

I have been working on the tracks. Talk about a slow boat to China.

I made a mould of the masters. Casted about 18 track links and have moulded that. Now I am making copies of those.Man what a lot of work.

This sure is a pain. I have to put the pins in and make sure the resin takes around them.

When production starts I will have to cast about 150 links per unit

What are you guys feeling of me making the bottom strait part in one long piece and maybe the top as well and use the single links to go around the idler and drive ?

You guys who are getting this project please give me some feedback on this.

Thanks :D

Well Pickel, I see your plight. I for one have always liked movable tracks, its like a propeller on a 1:18 plane....I can't walk by without giving it a spin.

From the production point of view 150 links with pins per tank is very time consuming, if not maddening. The one piece rubber track would be ideal but very costly for such a limited run. :? What to do?

I guess I could live with static tracks. The T-34 is just going to be displayed.....most likely in a diorama so I won't need it roll around much.
What ever you decide it's still going to be the only 1:18th T-34 made for us.

Thanks guys ,

Making the covers were not all that easy.

First I cut a strip of styreen the width I needed.

Then got a length of tube the correct diameter and packed both ends with Bondo.

I shaped both ends to get the correct roundness. Kind of like a half of a bullet.

Then I flatened one side and glued it onto the strip.

Then I rounded the ends to shape.

Filled in the sides with Bondo glazing putty.

Sanded to shape and do it again.

Then I cut to length.

Then added bolt heads.

The pipes are tubing cut on angles and glued and sanded to shape.

I may have to shave the ends a little better to get the correct angle.
