1/18 M-3 Tank Destroyer Wrapping Up Full Build Pics !!!

Post by pickelhaube » Fri Jun 25, 2010 6:42 am

I am hoping to get caught up on my back orders today and will probably start working on this , this weekend.

In order to get anything done and get product out I need to work 7 days a week. I have decided to save Sat and Sunday as "prototype" days.

This was the top of one of my last polls to do.

viewtopic.php?t=21034&highlight=tank+destroyer

So this will be started ASAP.

I will do a short kit on this. The gun and shield sitting on top of the ready round rack . I will also make new fuel tanks that fit in the rear of the vehical.

You should have pointed out which gun to do too in the poll. The T19 105MM looks better than the T12 75MM. But that's my opinion. :D

What money was discussed on this project?

The 75 mm M3 was used in almost every theater of WW2 from start to finish that the Americans were in.

They were mauled at the Kassierene Pass and helped the Marines in the Pacific island hoping campaigns . When the Marines got them theyb were concidered obsolete . But they were happy to get them.

It was used by almost all of the Allied forces.

The 105 was used in the later part of the war. Here it is

I have been comissioned to build the 75mm M-3 so after I get caught up on back orders it will start.

If there is a demand for the 105 it will be done  :D

Very good. :P I know there were more 75MM versions made than the 105MM, I was just thinking of the one in Kellys Heroes that looks better. :D

I have literature on both vehicles AND the standard M3 halftrack.

I knew that case of M16s I bought from the Monkey would come in handy at some time. Maybe I will have to get a couple of the kits from you when they are available.

Grunt and Fritz,

I was just going to make the gun , mount and a few other dodads. To drop in the half track. So the way I will make it should fit in the FOV and 21st.

This will be a short kit to keep the price down.

I think you will have to put a floor in each one. So theoritcally it should work in both.

But I only have bunches of the 21st I do not own a FOV. :?

The forces of valor version is the one that is readily available, so you gotta make sure either kit works with that release as well.

I do not have one. But there are PLENTY of the quad .50s about and they are reasonable.

Again I was going to make the gun and it's mount with some other add ons. So all you are going to need is an empty bed in the track.

So it should work with no problem.

Is one of the "doodads" a bumper with a roller?

The M3 TD only came with the roller, not the winch.

I'd hate to butcher my M3A1 Halftrack just to get a roller. We all have so many M16's left over from last years sales, cutting one for a flat floor is no biggie.

Not a deal killer, just a question.

Count me in for a 75mm kit with a front roller. Let us know the price.

Entire kit sounds great.

The problem with the 21st century version that there are finite number available. Not that your kit will cause a rush on the remaining stocks, I'm just pointing out that developing kits for vehicles that are expensive or no longer exist can be risky, not just necessarily for m16 quad .50 half-tracks.

The unimax version is readily available for the foreseeable future.

21C's version might be dwindling stock. JSI M16A1's are plentiful. Twice the detail for about $10 more.

I didn't even know JSI had an M16 half track at market yet. so there you go, i learn something new everyday.

Did they fix the bed and allow for the gun to spin or is just a straight copy?

The 75mm Tank Destroyer was undergunned as a Tank Destroyer in Europe and Africa against the Germans but it was produced in enough numbers to have been used in all theaters of WW2.

The 105mm gun mounted on a halftrack was not produced in large numbers because early usage found the 105 in continued firings literally shook the vehicle apart. The American halftrack was not welded together, it was bolted together, like a very big tinker toy.

The 105 gun on the halftrack isn't as sexy looking as the 75mm gun. The 75mm guns were WW1 "French 75's" dismounted from artillery carriages at the start of WW2. How cool is that?

I do like the 105.

Like I said before if there is interest I will build it.

So far you are the only guy on the board who wants one. There are about 3 guys off the board who want it as well.

The startting point is if I get 10 guys who are willing to get it.

So if anybody else wants a 105 Howitzer mounted on the half track chime in.

BTW I will be building the 105 Howitzer field gun probably before Christmas. It is the same gun I think. But the platform mount is totaly different than the wheeled version.

Again if anybody else wants the 105 speak up and your wishes will come through.

Not too many toy companies out there who will do this. :D
