Holy Grail of 1/18

Post by tom@skyworkstoys » Sat May 15, 2010 9:03 pm

Here is a loaded question for everyone. What do you consider the Holy Grail of 1/18th scale models? In other words, if you could pick ONE plane that has not been produced that you would like to see, what is it? I have heard a ton of answers over the years, but I thought it was time to ask again.

Just because I am asking this does not mean SkyWorksToys will be making it! I just wanted to see what the most popular unmade plane in 1/18 scale

I have heard from a few of the folks, and so far we have B-29 and a bunch of jets, both American and Russian.

As for my Holy Grail, I would love to see the A-10 Warthog, and the B-29. Both are such cool planes. A B-17 would also be nice.

I would love to see a P-39 Airacobra. It would be cool to have the engine detail, and the neat tri-cycle landing gear it has.

I will second the nomination of the P-39. Beautiful plane that was also deadly when flown at low altitudes. Just look what the Russians did with them. Many of the top Russian aces chose to keep their Airacobras even when the late war Russian hot rod fighters became available.
"What a magnificent aeroplane! They could have all their Spitfires and Mustangs!"

Would have to say the B-17 Flying Fortress.

With a full compliment of the crew that would fit in it would be doubly awesome.

The ball turret alone would be huge.
Just think the size of the recent Star Wars Gunship pods only more realistic.

I think about the size of it with functioning features and crew would blow the mind. That would be the ultimate.

Based on reading the forum for a while, I'd have to say the A-10 would be likely to be the top pick, and I couldn't disagree.

The F-4 would probably be near the top, as well. It's long service life in many air forces would guarantee that it would be popular.

Personally, in terms of modern and near-modern aircraft, I'd love to see the F-22 and the MiG 21.

In terms of significant aircraft that are missing from the WWII fleet of 1:18, I have to agree that the P-39 is a big hole, as is the Hurricane. Both were very important planes that deserve lots of repaints and would provide many opportunities for customs.

I could not agree more :)

The A-10 would be awesome, as well as the F-4.

Concerning missing WWII planes, I would like the see the Hurricane and some medium bombers (such as the B-25).
We still need more new 1/18 aircraft!

I would like to see the German FW-190-f model. The FW-190-D's were just OK, but the F-model I believe is the one that should have been made from the start.
Then the B-17, with the crew of coarse! German ME-110!!!
The A-10 would be a nice touch also!
WOW!!!!!!!!

B-29
Why bother with such puny airplanes..?? I say a Spruce Goose, or perhaps an Antonov AN-225, I mean the Antonov has what... a roughly 300 foot wingspan, and the Goose comes in at around 320 or so. What would that work out to in 1/18 scale...??

For fighter aircraft the P-39 (one that hasn't been made yet) would probably rank in my top list, but I could just as well like a Typhoon. Though there probably wouldn't be as many paint schemes as the Aircobra.

Skyworks does the Hurricane btw: http://www.militarytoyshop.com/prodtype ... istory=cat

My holy grail for single engine WWII aircraft though would have been the SBD Dauntless, I'm still hoping Admiral comes through on that one day.
