Official Comic Con Thread

Post by aferguson » Mon Jul 04, 2005 2:31 pm

With Comic Con about 10 days away and since there will (hopefully) be much to talk about, i figured i'd start an official thread on it to avoid getting several 'splinter' threads.

And the first thing to discuss is that anyone who is a member of Area 21 and is planning on attending the show may want to check out 21c's Area 21....could save you a few dollars.

This is supposed to be the biggest industry fan show of the year; let's hope it lives up to its billing...

Comic Con lives up to the billing every year. I will be there for sure doing some coverage and some BBi spying :-D I will also be doing a few Star Wars related things. Can't wait! I will post photos of various Comic Con things like I did last year. I plan to be there Wednesday - Saturday at the least, probably Sunday as well.

I hope you keep this up and sticky for a while. I will be at the family cabin in Canada for 3 weeks starting next Tuesday. I know boo hoo for me---I get a nice long fishing trip. But, it is so damn remote out there getting Internet is a pipe dream. I will be jonesing for some serious info.

No ill will in my last post Aferg. I love the cabin. The only thing is that is is on an island in the middle of Lake Huron. There isn't too much out that way. And, besides, having the net up there kind of defeats the purpose of getting away--so my father-inlaw tells me.

No worries, we usually have Comic Con threads up for a long time after the Con. Usually a lot to talk about!

Only registered AREA-21 fans who
are present at the show are qualified to enter the drawing to win one of
these three special airplanes.

That's really GREAT for you guys on the West Coast!!!!

Hey 21st Century! What about me? The guy from the mid-west that isn't gonna ever be able to come that far to attend one of these shows?

Can't I and others like me that support 21st Century with the many items we buy during the year have a crack at winning something from this convention??

Who is with me on this??

It wouldn't be an exclusive if they did it any other way. A lot of companies have their idea of 'exclusives' screwed up lately. Most noteabley is Hasbro. I NEVER think of anything as an exclusive from them anymore. It SHOULD be that you have to be there in order to get it, in other words, earn the exclusive. That's what I've always thought. That makes it rare, hard to get, and very sought after which is what an exclusive should be. But Hasbro, they just don't get it. I went almost across the United States to Indianapolis, Indiana to Star Wars Celebration III. I picked up 10 of the 'exclusive' Celebration III Darth Vaders that had brand new recorded lines from James Earl Jones. When I got home from the con after being there all 4 days + the night before the first day... I go online to starwars.com and low and behold they are being sold online to anyone who wants one. Well, the idea of exclusive just totally fell through. In fact the special cases that you could BUY (yes BUY) to put the Vaders in that said 'Celebration III' on them became more rare and sought after than the Vaders because those were only available at Celebration III.
So I applaud 21st for keeping this a true exclusive. I feel sorry for those who cannot make it, but it wouldn't be an exclusive without this method IMO.

P51,

I understand what you are saying about an exclusive item being offered to those that come the convention. That's fine (Sorry to hear about your Vader experience).

What I am saying is 21st Century should offer a "play at home contest" for us non-west coasters.

Enter online by members of the 21st Fan club for some more average prize. A plane, tank or even a figure. Just something that would allow us to share in the convention.

I really like the idea of a "play along at home contest!" I might have to keep that in mind in the future, I think 21st is doing all that they have already planned on for Comic Con so I doubt I can sneak that idea in for this show this time. However I really do like the idea of a remote show special in the future! Thanks Razor! I will throw the ball at 21st later and see if they will catch it!

Here's one - will someone go to the Todd McFarlane Q&A session and ask why he doesn't do 1/18?

One year I will make it there. I just hope my buddy gets to pick up a set of the Japanese infantry for me.

Actually, it'd be really cool if 21st could put on a seminar. I know from being with Star Wars groups that it isn't hard to get a seminar time slot and room. Have it 'what's new with XD and 32X'. I'm sure there would be a good sized crowd!

I just noticed that the one of the paint schemes is from the 4th FG. I hope that the unit will be featured in a future repaint. The 4th has been woefully ignored so far. "Sweet Arlene" looks sharp as hell! Who ever wins her will be one lucky guy!

It sure looks like Comic con will be something special! If I could just get my hands on one of those uniques.....

Good luck!

Hi guys,

I too, will be at ComicCon next week and will be bringing my camera and laptop. I hope to post any and all things in 1:18, 1:32, 1:72 & 1:144 that we all would love to know about. I intend to upload pics nightly starting Wednesday - the preview night.

I also plan to pick as many of the brains from bbi, 21st C, and the other mentionables to find out more about upcoming goodies we haven't yet heard of or are possibly on the drawing board.

I hope to connect with P51 and get the chance to meet other members of this forum while in San Diego!

More from me later,

Bravo two-six

I'll be at the 21st Booth for most of the con, so you can't miss me! I'll have the Canon Rebel around my neck and taking photos of everything that moves and doesn't move :-D My photos from the event might actually be on Area21 rather than a personal gallery at first, but I'll be sure to post high res shots of the various things. I'll be getting there sometime Wednesday early-afternoon just before it opens to the public. Anyone going is welcome to stop by and say hi! I know Zach and I both would love to meet a lot of you. Of course, be warned that by meeting up with us you're asking for me to get a photo of you ;-)

i'll be looking forward to updates from all of you all the time as to what's going on at comic con. your efforts will be appreciated.

my only suggestion is for the attendees to form a human chain around 21st and bbi execs (using chains and handcuffs of course). then, refuse to leave until our demands are met...

Alright troops! This just came in! As AREA-21 fans you are the first to receive this intel. 21st H.Q. has just released the details on another Bonus Product that will be made available for early sale to the public at Comic Con 2005!

AREA-21 is proud to announce the 1:18 Scale Bf-109G 6 painted in the markings of Gunther Rall!

This legendary WWII German Ace's aircraft has been painted in the early markings of one of the aircraft that he flew, and is presented in a beautiful "Special Edition" package packed with historical information and vintage war relics. The Gunther Rall 109 joins the Japanese figure sets and the German F-104 Marinefleiger as the 3rd early release product to made available for sale to the public during Comic Con 2005!

The time has never been better to come see all the new and exciting 21st Century Toys products. See you in San Diego!

Oh Yea.. ANOTHER thing I won't be able to get... :x
Sorry, but the more they announce, the more I feel screwed..
