Post by Barbarian333 » Tue Apr 13, 2010 7:16 pm

Check this out http://cgi.ebay.com/Prototype-21st-Cent ... 35a8992dfe
I dont think it has all the rivets that a bbi Zero has. But its very interesting.

Not this again

To be totally fair, if this is a real prototype (not a hardcopy or anything, but an actual ground-up prototype), $2000's probably not that outrageous... Maybe a little, I don't know what a 21st Cent. Proto is really worth or not... But in the realm of prototypes, paying an arm and a leg isn't anything new. You should see what true Star Wars prototypes go for. :?

If I were a rich man bedebede with plenty of cash to throw around...I would buy this.

It looks pretty nice in the close ups.

Too bad 21C world went to hell and this wasn't released, then released again modified as a Rufe floatplane.

Yup! it's indeed the REAL deal. That was a true prototype used at the Comic Con event back in 2005 I think! Maybe 2006? It was scrapped when BBI announced the Zero as it was not so are along in the production routine and other more favorable releases were instead launched like the Avenger, MiG-15, F-86 and Me-262.

The prototype was an earlier modeling effort similar to the P-40, Corsair, and Stuka. = no or limited moving control surfaces.

It's heavier than production plastic, pretty sturdy though for the price and investment I wouldn't play with it too much. It originally was all primer gray but 2 days before comic con the decision to put some paint on the plane was determined the best way to introduce the plane which also kicked off the release of the Japanese figures. Also- an interesting note- I personally hand carried this Zero on a plane from Utah to San Diego and to the convention center so for roughly 4 hours I got to own and hold the only 1:18 scale zero of it's day! Kinda fun-

So there is some history on it! This zero was ultimately determined to be too old and not enough market share to support and outlived it's usefulness as an evaluation model. It's a nice little piece of 21C cold war history! ;)

I just don't see it.

Of course I do not have the money anyway.

But if I did I still don't think that I would get it.

I could find 4 cars for that money that would run for a while and make good beaters in the winter. So I wouldn't buy it either.

I know guys who've plunked down way more to own things like a rocket-firing Boba Fett though... *shrugs* It's all in what tickles your pickle.

Nope it's not mine. I was just a babysitter back in 2006 for a period of a couple days. The auction is directly from the 21C vault and being handled by an All-Go rep.

the 3 spitfire auction is a pretty good deal if you can snag them at the starting bid.

I wouldn't pay $50 for that prototype zero. What's the appeal anyway?

Yeah, especially because there are already 2 pretty cool BBI Zeros.
We still need more new 1/18 aircraft!
