All right all you AVG'ers...place yer bets!
Who's ride?

Chuck Older?
Tex Hill?
Bob Neale?
Pappy?

How much "re-tooling" can one do with those molds?

Will have to get this so RT Smith will have a wingman

The sign of a great model is that one’s eye is not drawn to any one feature, yet one can study it for hours and continually find something new.

I suppose I'm in for one if it's done right...no pre-order for me though!

I may actually pick this one up. At $80 it is a bit steep for me, but it's nice to see P-40's available again. I just wish they would have done a Russian or RAF paint scheme. I already have an AVG P-40. I am also curious if JSI made any improvements to the mold.

That will be about a c-note to your door. I sure miss the days of finding these things local.

Are you meaning a new RAF P-40, because there was this one form 21st Century a long time ago..

JSI has said they would make improvements to the old 21c toolings before, only those toolings were nearly the same as the originals - save the new JSI stamp in place of the 21c logo. I'd like to see final production pictures before I consider another P-40. I'm glad they are going with an AVG scheme, though.

Yup, I passed by that P-40, along with countless P-47's, Spitfires, 109's and 190's at my local Wal-Marts too many times to remember a few years ago. I just figured they would always be there. :(

Do pre-orders benefit from the free shipping deals that etailers offer? If not, $100 to my door is a deal breaker. I just can't justify those prices. I'm happy some people can afford the new price points for 1/18 scale aircraft but I just can't hang anymore.

According to the BC website, free shipping applies if you pre-order right away.

I think if I were a fresh face in the world of 1:18th collectibles the price wouldn’t bug me as much as it does being an old timer. It’s hard for me to accept paying twice what I did for the same airplane with a new paint scheme. It’s kind of funny but when I was buying these planes at $40 a crack at Walmart I always thought they were worth much more. Now I’m pissed I have to pay more. I think I’m nuts.

Anyway if free shipping is indeed permitted then that’s not a terrible deal. I just hate preordering after the F-14 debacle.

I will agree that $40 was an awesome deal for 1/18 scale aircraft and that I think we were fortunate to be part of that scene while it lasted. I don't, however, feel that $100 for 1/18 scale aircraft is worth it. At least for single engine propeller driven aircraft. I think I could justify buying 1/18 scale aircraft for $60 to $75, especially considering they are repaints of existing molds. I just wish I made more cash.

I just bought a few 21c P40s in the past month or so (both Pearl Harbor and the Langley paint schemes for relatively good prices) on eBay so I think I'll pass. I also have Sky Captain's ride so that makes it 4 (yes, I am one of the few people who liked the movie :-)).

Unless JSI adds movable flight surfaces to the P-40B, I'm afraid I'm out.

Ditto

May as well, they made the 1:32 version, and what else is there that's interesting with this plane, the early P-40?

Not that I'm complaining with a complete set of all of the 21C's so far.

Don't think they'd be doing a Russian ace version, even though that'd be my choice it probably wouldn't sell well.

There's more choices of schemes with later versions of the P-40. I'm just sayin...and sayin...

ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz......... Until they redesign the canopy, I have no interest in it whatsoever.

Yeah, that would be my first choice.

I'm looking at my 21C 1/48 P-40E and it's got a lot going for it. The detail on it is a little more involved than the 1:18 or 1:32 P-40B's for such a smaller scale. Probably because it's a later mold.
I can imagine how awesome it would be in the larger scale.

Or the P-40N "Rusty" http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-7549626310 ... 2_37134633

Skyworks has a beautiful Aleutians P-40E conversion, it makes me want to cry 'cause I aint got the scratch. :(

I'll probably end up buying the JSI AVG P-40B though.

So $80+ tax ... hmm, I'll likely get one then!

This may sound crazy, but I really like the JSI boxes, both on vehicles and figures. Obviously I like the toy too.

Hope they fixed the chin scoop. The real thing isn't as round. Small detail, but it's all in the details to me.

Here it is, the (imagined) bigger P-40E that 21C Toys was going to make in 1:18  [img]<a href="http://s569.photobucket.com/albums/ss13 ... erP-40.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss13 ... erP-40.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The P-40 was one of the worst molds 21st had besides the first Mustang, I'll pass unless JSI made a major improvement on it.

The P-40B mold from 21C was indeed OLD tooling which has long started to show it's age. I was designed as a prototype back with the P-51D, Me-109, Stuka, and Corsair.

The B mold was an obvious choice to squeeze out AVG schemes as top sellers but ultimately the B mold is very limited to the amount of schemes you can do. I agree that the later models with the larger chin scoop are more attractive and I really curious to see what exactly JSI has done with this mold to improve it. -Otherwise I am also not very interested
