" All-Go! 1:18 P-51 Moves Closer to Production

All-Go! Toys notified us today that: "Final FEP on Passion Wagon has been approved for production." We also have a few new pics of this FEP model posted on the item. Yeah, I just noticed that the paint prototype for the advertisement and the production version aren't the same block.

yeah and it doesnt look fully painted either
it just looks like OD colored plastic
for 100 bills they better do BBI style paint apps

IIRC the fin fillet was due to the a/c becoming unstable when in some configuration/airspeed conditions, this was true of most models.

When a fix was found, it was incorporated into all new construction and kits supplied for field installation on airframes still in service.

""One report stated:
“Unless a dorsal fin is installed on the P-51B, P-51C and P-51D airplanes, a snap roll may result when attempting a slow roll. The horizontal stabilizer will not withstand the effects of a snap roll. To prevent recurrence the stabilizer should be reinforced in accordance with T.O. 01-60J-18 dated 8 April 1944 and a dorsal fin should be installed. Dorsal fin kits are being made available to overseas activities.” These kits became available in August 1944 and were fitted to Bs and Cs (as well as Ds & Ks)."" Copied and pasted from here:

While my personal preference for Passion Wagon would be without this fillet for variety, it's conceivable that both configurations are correct if this airframe was still in service after the fixit kit became available.

A little bit more on the fillet. According to this site, the fillet was added when the a/c was assigned to Captain Charles E. "Chuck" Weaver from Major Arval J. Roberson. But who knows on exact timing.

I actually feel the same way you do, chunks. As I said in my very first post in this forum, unless the real plane flew in the war with the fin installed later on, I don't feel like investing $120 on a repaint. So actually I'm glad you found that site that has a pic of PW with the fin installed.

If I may nitpick one more time, two additional swastikas have to be placed underneath the first two in order for this plane to be accurate.
Don't mean to be a rivet counter, but at $100 a pop, these repaints have to be at least historically accurate. Just have that ME-262 kill in there and I'm sold.

With that said though, I really wish this release would take off so as to increase our chances of seeing new molds in the future.

EDIT: Now I'm confused. According to this site (http://www.swissmustangs.ch/7215.html) Charles "Chuck" Weaver flew another plane with the same codes (G4A) which is not PW.

The link says it was painted British Dark Green instead of American Olive Drab.

Anyone know the difference, or have an example, or maybe state an example of what the difference is?

I appreciate Chunks efforts to prove that the fin extension is legit.

I had no idea they retrofitted them in the field to make the plane more stable.

Found this last night also, just didn't think of including it. It has the markings for both ships and a photo of the second you mention above.

British Dark Green was standardized in 1936 for the Temperate Land Scheme. If you have any of 21c's spits, that should be the green used on them.

I just noticed something: if you look at the paint on the canopy it looks more like the British Dark Green seen on Spits. The rest of the upper surfaces are in Olive Drab.

This is a link to the decals on the site Chunks linked. Look it shows the tail being old style with the OD Green paint and the filler added for the natural skin version.
