I like the Stuka as well but it does lack some detail on the trailing side of the wing. Still its size, 1:18th is impressive.
The Me-109......which one? 21st's first was the Me-109 E, good detail and came with the smaller pilot (I like This one. I remember the first time I saw it )
The 21st Me-109 G.............Wow detail and paint schemes on these models was just outstanding. By this time the quality of 21st's models was of a higher caliber.
If it's possible, over time I'd get all 3......Stuka, Me-109 E and G and then you've got all the different paint schemes.
now by this time you'd be looking at 10 to 15 aircraft...if not more.
So happy collecting!!!!!!!

If you walked into a store and saw a 21c Stuka and 21c 109, both for $45 and only had $45 ...
Stuka
The down side of the 21c Stuka is that its wings are a booger to snap on, and I've not been able to snap them off. In contrast, the 21c 109s break back down into their boxes with ease.
I still love my Winter Stuka.

Rocky my friend, that's how it starts: "An airplane." Let me tell you I was a devoted ground guy until I assembled my first AC. You will have both in due time I'm sure. As others have said Stuka is an impressive beast, but the 109G (by either company) is a more detailed bird.rocky100370 wrote:Im thinking about buying an airplane. Which one is better and why?

The Stuka is large and impressive and one of my favorites, but its an earlier 21c tooling and lacks some of the finer details - particularly with the dive flaps.
Then there are the Me-109s and the Bf-109s. The 21c ME-109Es are an early tooling and good for what they are, however the 21c Bf-109Gs are fantastic, as is the BBI version.
It would be tough for me to choose one over the other, but in some ways I would go with the Bf-109 first, but plan on getting the Stuka as well.

"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."
I know that a lot of people are mentioning cost and value in relation to the most bang for your buck as factors but here are some other things you can consider.
First, aesthetics, ask yourself which one looks more visually appealling to you. Which one do you want to come home to and stare at or play with more? Both the stuka and the me-109 have different paint schemes (and body styles for the 109). Check out all the different versions made and you might fall in love with a particular style. Personally I was more intrested in the starburst 109 "gustav" and the galland 109 "emil" due to the striking red and yellow noses, the history of the pilots, and the visual appeal of the sleek fighter planes.
What kind of aircraft do you want? A fighter or a dive bomber? The 109 was fast (the reason for it's smaller size) and were used heavily during the war. Some of the greatest aces and insane kill scores were in the 109. The stuka had a lot of early success but it soon was too slow and cumbersome to keep up or defend itself.
Though the stuka makes a strong case with the fact that it is bigger, has a bomb, is a 2 seater, has a unique design (you won't be able to retract the stuka's wheels), and is probably less expensive, I still think I would personally get a 109 if I could only choose one to own. Don't get me wrong, I love pretending I have the sirens of jericho going off in a screaming dive as I bomb my tanks and infantry so I can recommend the stuka as well.
Also, another highly recommended ultimate soldier 1:18 german plane as another option to look into is the focke-wulf 190.

Stuka or 109?
Over the past several years, I have aquired all 6 1/18th scale Stukas,
all 6 1/18th scale 109Es, and 4 of the 5 109Gs (no Rall yet)...I think they are all great! The 109Es are pretty simple, but I love the paint schemes...The 109Gs are more detailed, but the landing gear doesn't seem to sit properly (the BBI 109F is probably more realistic)...The Stukas are awesome as well, dive brakes may be an issue, but they have an imposing look about them and the paint schemes are great.
Start where you can, look for deals at etailers, ebay, etc., and be aware that once you get started it is real hard to stop!

$45 is not easily found -- possible, but not likely.tpa05 wrote:I saw a reference for an aircraft for less than $45. Do these even exist?
I tossed out the $45 as the TRU price of Stukas and 109s back when TRU was carrying them.
Today Ebay has some deals, though shipping is normally the killer.
I'm still hunting for a California Cutie that will be about $130 all-in. One passed me up today, but that is because I'm also spread thin this week.
