1:18 Dream Line

Post by Fritzkrieg » Sat Dec 19, 2009 8:20 pm

Just for fun, I thought it be interesting to see what Era in history or other genre, you would like to see in 1:18. As a kid I loved the "Old West" style US Calvary. They came close with the Lone Ranger and Zoro lines, but no true Calvary figures were made. Now, I'd love to see a line of soldiers based on major Battles through-out histroy, like "Rorke's Drift", "The Civil War" or "WWI Trench soldiers". I also have a few ScFi favorites, I'd like to see get the 1:18 treatment. Halo or a Reboot of the classic Battlestar Galactica line would be pretty sweet.

Well, 1:18 scale Romans have already been made, so I can check that one off the list. I would love to see Greek Hoplites from the classical era, sporting accurate uniforms, armor, and weapons - ie none of that "300" loincloth crap.

I would also love 1:18 Civil War soldiers and there are lots of possibilities there for various uniforms, equipment, weapons, etc.

Third would be WWI soldiers.

I just bought 3 boosters of the Axis and Allies: Early War expansion. The theme is focused on the earlier part of the war. The expansion also is attempting to include other non-major nations.

I'd love to see things like early WWII era Belgian, French, Soviet, Finish, Greek, Hungary, Italian, etc. figures in 1:18. If they were $10 a pop, I'd buy only one of each. I know it is totally something that would only appeal to hard core collectors.

I also would like to see more artillery pieces. Again, the A&A Early War expansion draws I had tonight gave is coloring my opinion:

Italy :: Canonne da 75/27 Modello 11
France :: Canon de 75 Modele 1897

I also would like to see USN 1:18 figures. Modern or WWII.

The historical range (Ninja, Samurai, Roman, and two knights) figures that were for sale were nice.

And finally, I agree that anything "300" isn't gonna really interest me.

My dream 1/18 would be:
1. Apollo Astronauts in 1/18 and Lunar Module with Command Module vehicles to go with it. (Would not want a 1/18 Saturn V -no place to put it!)

2. Battlestar Galactica figures (old School) with 1/18 Vipers and Cylon Raiders

3. Civil War figs with all the weapons and cannon that go with them! (Could make an awesome Gettysburg dio - 20th Maine on Little Round Top)

4. WWI figs and all the weapons - trench warfare and dios!

WWI is a given. I'd also like some better figural options for use with '20s-'30s die cast vehicles.

WWII WAACs and WASPs.

I'd probably go for an old west line, as long as it wasn't a sausage fest.

I have to second Razor's vote for Apollo spacecraft and figures. I'd be out of my mind for those.

Also, although a lot of the US stuff resembles WWII, I'd like to see more Korean War items (we did get Migs and Sabres), including Chinese troops.

Finally, I know my son would love to have 1:18 Napoleonic figures and artillery pieces.

I'd love a lunar rover and 1:18 astronauts as well. :) Perhaps even a series of capsules starting further back with Project Mercury.

At the top of my list would be the classic era French Foreign Legion and Arab warriors. A Fort Zinderneuf playset would be awesome. Massive but awesome. Ever since I saw Beau Geste as a kid I've wanted something like that. Of course I could probably never afford such a huge playset but this is a "dream" thread.

I think I remember seeing a 1:18ish Lunar Astronaut line in a Discovery store, a few years back. I know GI Joe had a lunar Capsule. Not sure how close to scale it was?

This would be awesome!
1/18 Saturn V- would be more than 20 feet high!
However, an F1 engine on a dolly would be possible.....

Planet Of The Apes would kick butt, WW1, more WW2, i.e. the form of Brits and Russians. Cival war and a full line of Medievil Knights would be awesome. Honestly, theres not enough space on here for me to name all the lines I would love to see. At this point I'm game for any new figs in our beloved 1:18. :D

THIS!!! I'd definitely be willing to pay a couple hundred dollars for a really nice Apollo box set. Would make such an awesome display! :D

Would like to see WW1 and a Korean War line. A new version of the MASH line would be great, Id love an H-13 and a WC-63. I'd also really like a line of bombers: B-25, B-24, B-17, B-29, and if I had a second house, a huge B-36, B-58, XB-70, and B-52. The Apollo Astronauts would also be a neat line.

I always liked the battle of rorke's drift, it would be cool if they made british soldiers & zulu warriors 8)

I could see capsules from Mercury, Gemini and all the way up to the new Orion project. There are some "toys" that are not 1/18 scale that have been made. But the coolest thing would be the level of movement like BBI/21st C figures have.
Man, I am getting all tinglie inside thinking about this - and it ain't the burrito I just had.

That actually would be a great idea :D The Pegasus X-1 model seems to be the closest we are getting in the NASA/spaceflight direction at the moment, however.

Once upon a time, there were those 1:18 or 1:16 scale astronaut figures that one could find at museums, but they has little or no articulation. Also, about 15 years ago, Hasbro released 3 3/4" versions of some of their original 12" GI Joe figures, including the astronaut and capsule. There are also the 3 3/4" GI Joe Astronauts and space craft. The old Defiant and Crusader shuttles are awesome, even if unrealistic and the figures were cool as well (Star Brigade items were crap, though).

In other scales, I have a 1:6 scale Hasbro GI Joe Mercury capsule, along with the 1:6 scale astronauts. I also have a very nice 1:48 scale model of the Apollo spacecraft and lunar module as well as a 1:48-ish Mercury Capsule made by Hotwheels.

On Amazon RIGHT NOW, they have the Saturn V (12.00) and Lunar Module (9.00) models in 1/48 scale.

I would agree with this! I had a Foreign Legion set from Marx toys when I was a kid and spent countless hours with it.
Anybody out there old enough to remember "Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion"?
