Here is my Tomcat collection... so far. I have the Black Knights coming- though I doubt it will stay as a black knights for very long. Anyway enjoy my little tomcat display. (The Jolly Rogers is the SE plane with fixed spots, I painted the Black Aces, and the Pukin' Dogs to round out my 3 for now) Enjoy!

I can't wait for my bird to visit TKO this summer to transform into VF-101 Grim Reapers AD 160 low vis circa 2004, but after looking at these pics, I have an ugly feeling it won't be sitting alone on my shelf for long.... They just look so good in multiples that I can easily see some other great scheme or two ending up near it. I honestly wouldn't know what to pick though, as the only one I have a real connection to is the one he is painting for me.

I heard here awhile ago that JSI were planning an F-14 kit for a mid year release. Any one have any updates on this?

The tomcat is really impressive ( by the way TKO , you've got a nice line up!)

I saw 2 tomcat hanged at the ceiling in a military depot shop in the south of France and it makes a really stunning display.

So my point is : We are the only one complaining about the spotcat ! For the general public it's a great airplane.

PS : mine F14 was cured of its spot :) I am a maniac too !

Not this thread again

I agree, however, that the F-14 is one of the most impressive - if the most impressive - 1:18 models ever made. Its simply a monster. I have been content with my original de-spotted S1 aircraft (the subject of this very thread) and its been on display since I got it two years ago. Apart from the spots, I didn't have any defects and to keep it safe, its been hanging in flight off its fragile gear for the past couple of years. Outside of putting it back in the box, a hanging display is perhaps the best way to display/store the F-14. I've got no need for another

I have the BT version and I think this is the greatest 1:18 scale airplane made so far. It's expensive but it really grabs all the attention in my man cave.

To Jay's question.

So you hear JSI is releasing another F-14? Nope, I know nothing.

If they keep that same configuration please let the next scheme actually represent a real Bombcat like VF-14 or VF-41 last cruise or VF-211 in OEF/OIF

Sorry for reviving an old thread. I recently acquired a second hand VF-14A Jolly Rogers, I had been looking around casually for one at the right price for the longest time. Then by chance this pop up on my radar and I had to get it. Luckily the previous owner had repainted it, which saved me the hassle of sorting that problem out. Transporting it back to my place was a pain as the landing gears couldn't retract and there was no box. I am very happy with my purchase and I would like to share some pictures of it. Enjoy :-)

Nice repaint on the Tomcat. Is the main landing gear metal. I know the aftermarket metal landing gear do not retract.

Yes it's definitely better than the original spotty cat paint scheme.

I believe the previous owner was a professional modeller.

The landing gears were the original plastic gears.

It's just that on each side the gears had these small tabs that were locked in place, both were stuck and they both felt very fragile. So I decided not to force them apart.

If you plan on leaving the Tomcat on it's main gear you might consider seeking out the metal landing gear since the original plastic gear has failed in the past. "Pizzaguy" use to sell the metal gear. Installation takes a little time but it's worth the investment.

Here is a video on installing the metal gear.

Thanks for the kind advise, not to worry I have the tomcat resting on some transparent blocks.
I am already aware of the notorious landing gears. :-)

very nice Tom Cat. I myself have repainted my spots cat and recently acquired the Black Knights lighted version few months ago. Both are proudly display on custom stands as I don't trust the plastic landing gears at all. Better be safe than sorry :D

Nice repaint of the Spotcat. 8)

Know these are pretty pricey these days, but what a huge model, and impressive, if you can get a fixed Tomcat. 8)

When I got mine I never pulled it out of the box .

Sold it a couple of years later at cost .

From now on, no more Mr. Nice Guy .

I feel your pain. Now it would cost twice or more original retail to get one. However I mangaged to score the Black Knights lighed version with custom stand complete with box few weeks ago for less than retail  .
