NEW PICS-PROJECTS DURING THE 1/18 LULL?

So nice to have 1/18 back again. All the arguments, flaming, etc. makes the forum so much more interesting. Now that 1/18 scale seems to be getting back on line with the new X-1 and F-14 I am just curious what we did with our free time during the 1/18 drought? I got into 1/35 modelling again. How about you?

Thanks! A daycare business next to my office went bankrupt so I got the entire building (3,000 sq. feet) for $28,000. Didn't have anything to do with it besides put all my 1/18 stuff. What you see is about half of it. Guess where I spend all my lunch breaks! When my wife looks in there she just rolls her eyes and says she married a ten year old

for one heart stopping moment i thought the Dora was 1/18. I gather that's the 1/35 kit. Did you build it yourself? If so i really admire your patience. What is it, something like 2500 parts?

I can't imagine the size of a 1/18 Dora. The one in the picture is 1/35 and it is nearly 5 feet long. 1/18 would barely fit in the room. Your right, it's around 3,000 pieces. Took me 8 months to build. Really went all out with the aluminum barrel and decals from Nordland in Checoslovakia. It has over 250 decals and just applying all those decals took well over a month.Weathering took another month. The shells are steel and are from a guy in Germany who makes them. Really took some searching to find them. Painting it used up 19 cans of tamiya spray paint and a LOT of airbrushing. The diorama I built is 7 feet long and as you can see the Dora barely fit on the table. All the diorama was built from scratch with dental plaster for the mountain. The picture is old as the groundwork is not finished in the picture but I have since finished the groundwork. I got burned out about the time I did the figures so I only have a few figures on it. I planned on having around 40 (the actual crew was 1,500!)which I will get around to sometime. Yes, lot of patience but I just made myself do a little bit EVERY day. It's surprising how quickly things go when you're consistent and have some time to kill. I spent the first month just staring at the box afraid to even start. Finally just tried to do a small part and just kept going. The company that produces the model really did a fantastic job. The fit was almost flawless and the detail is really amazing. Be a LONG, LONG time before I do another project like that again but it definitely killed some time during the 1/18 lull. There is a lot to be said for 1/18 scale planes-just snap together and you're good to go.

1/18 is really my favorite. That's the 1/6 Caltech German 88mm Flak gun peaking out from under the table and a 1/6 Flakvierling,etc. I dabble in almost every scale but 1/35 is as small as I go. Something about 1/18, at least in airplanes, which just seems right.

There is a guy in England who scratch built a 1/6 Dora railgun!! He keeps it in his garage and it barely fits. Unbelievable to see. Don't have any pictures but a websearch of 1/6 german dora will show you pics.

there was a spanish company that used to sell 1/20 scale Dora's. They were around $6000 iirc. They were approaching 9 feet long. The company is no longer around.

I'd like to have a Dora too, but it would easily consume my workbench area and put me out of business (sorta speak) and leave me with nothing left to do.

I never just sat and looked at pictures of my own room. Actually, it's a little disturbing

I just realized I have a WHOLE lot of SH....Don't even know how it happened-just bought one thing here, one thing there and now look. Spooky. Man, I need to put in a security system.
