Collector Demographic

I'm kind of curious as to what the demographics are here on the board. I want to know how many here are veterans or civilians. If you pipe in here tell me what you collect primarily as well.

As for myself, I was in for 9 years until the car I was in was hit by a drunk driver. I became disabled and separated from the Air Force. While in I was a Boom Operator on KC-135's.If I would have had my druthers I'd have stayed in for life. I collect mostly aircraft and tanks, not armor support or infantry. I like modern aircraft best but still like WWII stuff as well. I also build model rockets but never fly them. I'm thinking of starting to build 1/18 Missles as well.

4 years in the Air Force. I collect tanks, other military vehicles, figures and aircraft in 1/18th. I also collect diecast cars in 1/18th

Currently a Major in the Artillery (M109A6 155mm SP), 12 years Active.

Currently collect 1/18 and 1/32 aircraft. Only a couple of armor pieces in both scales.

4 yrs in Army as a tanker on the M-1 Abrams. I collect All 21st century and BBi and FoV. My room is getting crowded.

Never served in the military but my Dad, Uncle, and several Cousins served in Korea and Vietnam. I have always had a great interest in most things military, especially aircraft. I tried to join the Air Force but my eye sight was not good enough to fly jets. I was told I could work on them, but my dreams were crushed. I collect mostly 1/18 aircraft and currently have over 60 of them but things have become really tight lately so I haven't added much lately.

Father was in the airforce 25 years. We grew up mostly at Langley AFB in Virginia(the big TAC base) with F-4's flying overhead all day. We were the first ones to get the F-15 and F-16's. Never forget seeing those for the first time. By the way, the same criticisms of the F-22 were said about the F-15 and F-16 when they came out. Iraq would have been a very different outcome if we had listened to the nay sayers and been stuck going to war with F-4's and Delta darts

Never was in the military, but my father was in the Army Air Corps, then when I was very young he worked for the CAA then the FAA in the Pacific islands where I spent my early years. When we moved to the states, we always lived near proving grounds whether in Nevada or Washington State. He never said what he did there.
Later my parents became staunch pacifists and kept us kids away from any military aspirations.
I have two older brothers who disobeyed though and joined the Navy.
One was on the USS Coral Sea in the 70's when they launched the rescue mission to get the hostages out of Iran. Moral was high during the launch, no so much after the mission accident.
The other was an avionics tech for a recon squadron out of Guam during the Vietnam war.

20 Years 6 months as a Gunnersmate in the Navy. 11 ships and 3 shore duty stations. Been there done that, Hooyahhh!!!

I collect 1/32, 1/18 military planes and vehicles. 1/24, and 1/18 Nascar also sports cards, and C&R arms

Was not in military, but have a deep respect for those that serve.

Grandfather served in Army as small arms armorer during WWII.
His brother-in-law participated in the Normandy landings (Army - Charlie Co.)
A close friend, whom I consider a brother, served in the Army (Airborne) and toured in Afghanistan & Iraq.

Primarily collect 1/32 WWII aircraft.

Was in the US Army for 3 years, 11 months, 21 days and 9 1/2 hours.

Had enlisted for 3 years as a Heavy Weapons Infantry (Ma Duece, 106mm Recoilless Rifle, 81mm Mortar and 4.2" Mortar). Voluntary extension of my tour for 1 year to serve a year in Vietnam. Ended up a SP5 in a Signal Battalion Personal Section.

Collected military vehicles for 25 years, all types except Jeeps. Mostly Dodges (WC-56 CC, M-37's), Kaiser Jeep M-715 (not a Jeep) and 57mm Anti tank gun, had partial ownership of a Duece, WC-62 Dodge, White M-16 Half track.

Collect 1/18, 1/16 and 1/6 Armor and a few 1/18 planes.

24 Years in the Army and retired last year as a Chief Warrant Officer 5.
Specialized in Air Defense and Tactical Missile Systems. Had a blast, (literally) all over the world, including Iraq. But wife said it was time to settle down, so now I am civilianized

collect mostly 1:18 military but also anything else 1:18 scale. Have one of everything including repaints with the rare exception of missing a paint scheme or two from 21st's early offerings. Wife lets me display them as long as they dont make it to living room or kitchen

Never served myself, come from a family of veterans, Father Korea, Uncle WWII another Uncle Korea and one that served in Vietnam.

Anything WWII, 1:18, 1:32 etc, also collect C&R rifles and other hobbies that my wife says I spend too much on.

Right now deployed as team leader in a Combat Camera team. Have seen combat in Somalia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. Also involved in the Rwanda and Haiti operations in 1994.

Currently have 83 1:18 scale aircraft and 18 vehicles and pieces of armor.

Hey, I was in the 82nd during the "almost" airborne drop into Haiti. Were you at "Green Ramp" for our loadout?

Civilian over 18. Paternal grandfather was a Lt. Colonel in the Marine Air Corp during WWII/Korea - Bronze and Silver star recipient.

I collect primarily 1/32 aircraft from WWII in any nation, and 1/32 WWII German ground vehicles.

Dont remember a "Green Ramp" but that was a long time ago and I am always just working in the back of plane with the pilots knowing where we are supposed to be.

We were on stand-by for that one, ready to go when things changed. We then went and picked up stuff from the 10th at Drum and 3rd group and took them in in September of '94.

But maybe it was better that we didnt drop anyone, considering what a Charlie Fox the drop in Iraq was.

civilian, had 3 great uncles in WW2, 1 commanded a T34 and the other commanded a sherman(he was hit by a tiger and the explosion blew him out of the hatch, he lived with just shrapnel in his bottom) the 3rd was in the SS

I have a few aircraft and collect mostly 1/18 tanks and diecast cars

Civilian 39, Father was infrantry in WWII and brother was infrantry in Vietnam. Mainly collect 1/18 aircraft.

Green Ramp is what us lawn darts called the loading area at Pope AFB. It is where we chuted up and loaded on the back of the C-130s. There was a shi# load of birds there that day we loaded up to drop into Haiti.

Civilian over 18.
But always was interested in military history,and WWII in particular.
Started out building Airfix,Revell,and Monogram kits as a kid.
Got pretty good at it too.

Gave it up about 20 years ago though.Hard to do when you first move out of the house,and have a one bedroom apartment.

Discovered diecast about four years ago.
Franklin Mint.
Then Corgi.
21 Century,BBI.
Century Wings,GMP,Hobby Master,Dragon etc.

Mostly collect aircraft in 1/18,1/32, and 1/72.
Split pretty evenly,in all three scales.

Have maybe a dozen armor pieces.
FOV 1/32,and one Dragon 1/35.
