Good detective work. I wonder if they had them up for buyers to see.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say the $280 one has the cockpit lights and the $1600 has all the lights, the custom paintjob and other bells and whistles.

If the $280 one has all the lights, it's a no brainer. $50 is well worth that feature when you are already over $200.

$1600 for some led lights and a few other trinkets?

If this is true, the 1/18 scale hobby has just reached a new level of ridiculous. Oh, but they are only making a limited number of them.......

hi i am that guy

Post by thatf14guy » Thu Nov 19, 2009 6:20 am

hi every jsi f-14 fan, i am thatf14guy, better known as post 409 at the sewing circle at fighting118th.com. the 1600 dollar plane i'm talking about there is completely custom. it will not be one of these special edition tomcats, but one of my own choices. the paint scheme will be that of a 1991 flag tail jolly rogers tomcat with yes leds and other extras.
i admit i am a little annoyed with jsi now, since they told me my price will be much, much higher than these special editions. as i would have just bought one the special editions. but on the other side they might not be for the public. i will try to answer any questions you guys may have. but please nothing rude, like the warm welcome i got from the sewing circle.

Post by supersonicfifi » Thu Nov 19, 2009 6:26 am

hey F14guy ! it's a hobby and any news are welcome ! 8)

I think that we are so starved that the tempers are on short fuse !!!!!

i understand because i am one of them after so many deaspointement (Phantom; Mig 21, Skyraider ...)

so can you tell us more about the lantirn & armamement options (is it possible to make a F14D with correct engines ? )

Thanx & welcome

well as for the f-14d, i believe their will be one in the future, but as 4 doing one now, they told me they don't have the molds for'em yet. they did howver tell me they can match any f-14a paint scheme.
as for the lantirn, all i know is they can make them on request, i won't actually have my custom plane until probably april/march 2010. i will post pics of it when i get it, if i can figure out how to here. ordnance so far, still no bombs. i sent my source at jsi an email yestarday, haven't heard back yet.

Well there are a few things about these photos that are interesting. First, it looks like the spot question is in fact one part of a special weathering technique. I’m not sure how well its going to turn out since it appears that the planes overall color has changed. Now, it could be just another part of the process but since the red stripes are already done I would think that it will be this shade of grey.

For the money the paint job was the only thing that sold me on it. I would have never paid that much if I thought it would end up looking like my 3 year old painted it. Unfortunately, in the absence of a finished production model for comparison, all we can do is speculate. I will say I’m a tad bit worried but I seriously doubt they would put this much money into this project only to utterly bomb the paint. We will know soon enough.

If this is the actual weathering, JSI has dropped the ball on the paint job big time:

It's just random dots all over the fuselage.

Yikes! :(

I shouldn't have laugh at MERIT because now they laugh at me !

There is a saying in FRANCE :

"At clever , Clever and a Half ": it means that you will allways be outsmarted by someone else ...

Does anybody had time to copy the pictures ? the lighting of the cockpit will sure be a nice display !!!!!!!

Well look at it this way. We have a lot more clout than we thought. It means someone out there is monitoring our opinions of this plane. Honestly, if it were striped Zebra at $75 I wouldn’t care but at that price point it needs to be a quality aircraft. I will say this; if it resembles those production photos it will be going back. That being said I am willing to wait and see but they should have posted a production model for all to see earlier. That would have avoided all of this concern.

I downloaded some photos but I’m not sure if I got the ones you’re speaking of.
