Greetings
The sound of the specal edition F-14 reminds me of the New Bright light and sound F-14's that company made for awhile in the 1990's. They were pretty cool, I remember having two of them that I pretty much beat the crap out of through play. They were neat though, the wings worked, it lit up, all the good stuff the kids want. I still see them on random searches on ebay.
I'll pass on the special edition. It's neat and all, but I really do not need a model that lights up like a Christmas tree. Neat idea, but just not something I will spend the extra money on.

Take a look here...aferguson wrote:i haven't heard that the wings swing. That would be pretty neat. You'd think if New Bright could do it for $50 that JSI could do it for $280.

Greetings
I think Andy meant they don't swing with a motor, just manually. The New Bright model has battery operated swing wings.
It's too bad that they are putting the name of the show on the cockpit, it'd even be better to have the Maverick and Goose Top Gun names over that.

I had that one, the only bad thing about it was that it wasn't wireless. It would have been cool if it was wireless and could have the gear retractable or swappable. Had to be 1/32 scale or larger and the mold itself was good except for the big electronics compartments. I remember that Tomcat being fairly heavy too.The sound of the specal edition F-14 reminds me of the New Bright light and sound F-14's that company made for awhile in the 1990's. I agree with aferg, if the JSI Tomcat had motorized swing wings that would be excellent.

News of the special edition surfaced last week so it's not something that MTS and Badcat posted when the initial preorders went upI am still wondering is there a real special edition F-14 jumping out or just a ---- pipe dream there.
I had already put my preorder of regular F-14 on MTS and CAT seperately ,I don't remember they had mentioned anything of about the special edition .

I have to ask, why would you even think of paying that much for that plane? If you want a totally custom Cat I’m sure you can buy a regular plane and hire one of the extremely talented gentlemen on this board to give you the one off your looking for. I bet someone on here that has talent with this sort of thing could help. Even if I were a movie star I wouldn’t drop that much on this plane. That’s more like a “museum quality piece” price tag. Buy your Mustang and pass on the custom toy plane.thatf14guy wrote:military toy shop says they are getting a few, but i've been talking to jsi for months about custom tomcats, they never mentioned this, $280 sure beats paying $1650,...
My 2 cents

talked with Merit today no one knew before last week that there was to be a special edition. everyone was notified the day i made this post. just a note they over sold the original run by almost 10% so many dealers wont get all they ordered. so i wouldnt cancel your order in hopes of getting a special edition. i bet they will be going for far more than the 280 suggested retail! they might not be worth the high price.

Apparently part of the special edition is lighting. JSI had some pictures on their main web page (that have been removed now....too many questions asked) that showed what looked like special edition aircraft on the assembly line. Fiber optic lines were seen running to exterior and interior (cockpit) areas. Things that make you go "Hhhmmmmmmmmm?"

That’s going to make for some pissed off retailers. Especially the ones that claim to have their pre-orders nearly sold out.AMERICAN_GRENADIER wrote:talked with Merit today no one knew before last week that there was to be a special edition. everyone was notified the day i made this post. just a note they over sold the original run by almost 10% so many dealers wont get all they ordered. so i wouldnt cancel your order in hopes of getting a special edition. i bet they will be going for far more than the 280 suggested retail! they might not be worth the high price.

and pissed off customers as well. perhaps if jsi really cares about their paying customers they will make a few more to meet the large demand.
on the subject of the special edition tomcat i think they should leave off the toy trade show name too. this is a big leap in 1/18 aircraft the first electronic fighter! now how bout a sr-71 blackbird?

I guess they will see if they can go bigger than the SU27, which will become the longest 1:18 scale plane ever.
If they make it, I will buy it, even though it's taller than me LOL.

I'm glad the Tomcat will be coming soon. It's almost been a year since we 1st heard about someone even deciding to make one! It will make one hell of a Christmas for us 1/18 fans.

If you don't mind me asking (and don't have to kill me if you tell me), is your store a "Brick n mortar" or a etailer? If brick n mortar, where are you? Do you have any idea what the mark up will be on the special edition - is JSI giving you an MSRP you have to stick to?wolfman1973 wrote:The special edition will only be sold to dealers. But then they will resell them. Im getting five for my store.
My local hobby store is getting some of the regular models, but I haven't asked about the special edition yet.
thanks.

From Badcat's blog:
Taking Orders for Lighted, Special Edition 1:18 F-14
The Weekend of Heroes Show scheduled for December 5th in SoCal has commissioned a Special Edition 1:18 F-14 wired for cockpit lights, nav lights, and faux exhaust lights. There are only two hundred fifty of these Tomcats produced and the price will be $280. These pieces were made for the fans coming to the show. But what if they can't sell them all and what about the folks that can't make it to the show?
That's where we come in. Weekend of Heroes may sell us some of these Special Edition F-14s IF and I repeat IF any are unsold once the show is over. They'd like me to commit to a certain number but I won't do that unless I have the orders in hand. So, if you'd like a Special Ed F-14 give us a call at 209-848-4690 and we'll put you on the list. I'd estimate chances of us getting a Special Ed F-14 for you are better than 50/50

Does anyone know yet if the "name of the show" will be on the side or USS Theodore Roosevelt? If it has the show I'll pass, but if not I'm game - anyone know for sure?dragon53 wrote:From Badcat's blog:
