Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if your planning on taking a trip to to the Patton Museum I would do it sooner than later most of the Armor will be moving south. A few of the Privately owned item's will be staying from what I have heard but not much I should know more I go to a WW2 event down there every year but from what they told us last year was it due to it closing and them moving the home of the Armor. That panther is really cool. One of the neat things about the event is Saturday after the Civs leave they let us climb all over all of the tanks except for a few like the stug and the T-80. That panther was really nice on the inside. Except for some kid in front of me knocking the breach block out. So was the king Tiger. :D

From what I have been told it is going to Texas. They are already showing clips at the museum about it moving I think it was Ft. Hood where they moved the 1st Armored. They are making Ft. Knox the new hub for the army's finance dept. It will still host basic too. When I find out more I will keep you all posted.

Re: Do we need a Panther F in 1/18 scale ?

Post by pickelhaube » Sun Jul 01, 2012 9:15 am

Hey Guys,

Not a lot of fan fair on this project but I have been commissioned to do the the Panther F.

The guy who originally wanted this paid me about 3 months ago IN FULL for a " one of "

I will be making the turret and will mount the steel wheels for him ( he has taken these off of a 21st Tiger )

Is there anybody else interested or do I keep it as a " one of " ?

If not no big deal , it will be made anyway.

Amongst everything else I will make this in the month of July.

July will be a crazy busy month for me

Ken, this will be a fun project !!

Thanks :D :D :D

Okay, just so you know normandy. The first picture you have is of an Early Panther G with steel rimmed wheels.

And on the second picture? That was a prototype that sat a Schmalturm Turret on a PIV hull and was welded in place as it did not rotate.

Thanks Panther F,
Yep thats a G with steel wheels, I talked with Pickel a loooong time ago about casting 21st's Tiger I 's steel wheels and mounting them on a Panther.
I'd do a custom Panzer IV with the Schmalturm turret.......I think it would be a cool project.....

.....as would this...

I have already been paid for the " one of " and I need to make the Panther F this month because I want to have a wrap on all orders in order to start the K2. :D

So it will be done this month with fingers crossed.

Pickel, are you just doing the turret or are you doing that plus road wheels and tracks?

My consignor has me building the new Panther turret and he supplied the Tiger wheels for the switch out.

I had not thought about supplying the wheels but I guess I could do that if needed.

As far as the steel Tiger wheels go only the facing wheels have detail the wheels behind the face wheels are just plain disks.

Hey Pickel,

Since you are going to be doing the king tiger anyway, would you be willing to make the 88mm gun available by itself so it can be mounted on this panther turret? It was a theoretical update to this model.

I would probably buy your king tiger if you made the stereoscopic sights and the 105mm gun for it too.

I can always sell pieces parts .

As far as the stereo scope and 105 gun. I do not know that much about the K2

But once I start the project I will look into it.

When I started making my Sherman mods. I did not know the difference in a M-4 Sherman compared to a M4A1 Sherman.

Now I make the difference :D :D :D

Well, wasn't the Panther a response to the T-34?
