What should the next 1/18 scale armor be ? Closed

Ok after the Sdkfz 222 I will be doing the Spitfire V A/ B with clipped wings and vokes filter.

Then I will do another piece of armor.

I will do a few quickies first. Here they are

Wading breathers for the Shermy
Ben Hur trailer
50 cal shield with square turret for Hummer
Maybe the Firefly

I want to do a few Panzer Mk-IV pieces but there are not a lot of them out there . If JSI releases more of them I will jump on those mods.

The T-34 /76 will be alot easier to do than a T-34/85. That is why I went with that one.

But I will do a full blown armor piece from the ground up .

I will do a follow up with the top 5 choices. Then maybe a run off.

? ... I haven't a clue ,.. but actually , my vote is for the T-34/76 '42 instead of the Puma I initially voted for Matt.

Voted for the t 34 but would be happy with any on the list,don't forget some 251 halftrack mods,lots of 251's out there,and genrally low cost.

I voted T-34, but my preference would be for an IS-2 Stalin. For anyone who cares, it's been reported that Heng Long will be releasing an M4A3 Sherman and a new build Panther G (1/16 RC naturally) in the very near future, rumor has it the Sherm will be along very soon, like in a few weeks or a month perhaps, and the Panther possibly by years end. I haven't really kept close tabs on 1/16 RC lately, but this info comes from RCU, and they seem to have their finger on the pulse of new & upcoming offerings in the world of 1/16 armor.

Certain T-34's (Chelyabinsk..??) were produced with a mix of all steel (inner) and rubber rimmed (outer) roadwheels to conserve rubber which was in short supply. It made for a rough (and noisy) ride in a tank that was already not well known for it's "creature comforts"...

The reason I said T-34/76 rather than 85 is the steel wheels will be MUCH EASIER TO DO.

I know about the rubber wheels front and back that is a T-34/76-43.

Those 85 wheels will be a SOB to do . Bad enough I have to make the tracks from scratch.

The 222 has no parts that match to the Puma as I know about. Maybe some hinges.

The Hellcat is a total scratch as well.

I would have to make all of the running gear. This would be pricy to do and as far as American tanks go I do not think that it would sell. The M-10 was a success but barely.

This whole poll may be mute because sales are dropping big time. I have had about 4 guys back out of the 222 because of finances. I think that is my best looking project to date.

I hope this recession thing ends quick.

This was a difficult choice for me, I want them all. I went with the Hetzer because it seems to be the easiest in terms of Sculpting and Mold making. Pickel should have this done in a few days.

As for the Jagdtiger....Pickel I'd hold off for a while and see if 21st's King Tiger shows up from a different company. No need to start (a Jagdtiger) from the ground up on this one....yet.
The T-34 is a must do! It's beyond me why we haven't seen it in this scale. I thought FOV would have knocked one out by now.
I hope by mid week we'll narrow it down to 2 or 3 choices.

I really like the astetics of the stuart. To me the Stuart and the Hellcat, were the only good looking allied Tanks.

It would be like your M-10 conversion kit. A new turret would have to be made, barrel, and muzzlebreak. Not sure if it would be a problem, but the turret would have to be hollow, because most (if not all) 1/16 modelers would be putting RC components inside the turret.

The KV-1 and the IS-2 uses the same chassis, tracks, etc, so you wouldn't have to worry about making those. There's some difference on the upper hull, but overall, the Stalin's shape is so angular, it wouldn't be too hard to mold it.

I prefer 1/18 myself, but I feel the trumpeter 1/16 t34s (76 & 85, static or RC) really fill the void for that piece even being 1/16.

I would love a stuart though, small fun and cheap

Tough call. I would argue that from the above list the T-34 and Stuart (M-5 variant) are the most sorely needed in 1:18. The fact that they were not taken on by at least 21c surprises me. The T-34 (in general) was one of the most important armored vehicles of the war and was just as important for the Russians as the Sherman was for the US. Then there is the M-5 Stuart. 21c had both RC and non-RC versions in 1:6 scale and several repaints of one in 1:32 scale. I would have though we would have seen one of those in 1:18 early on - certainly before some of the more obscure pieces 21c made.

So that is where I stand on the issue - divided. I voted for the Stuart, but would just as much love to see a T-34.
