JSI F-14 preorder question
I would like to pre-order and F-14 model, but I am not sure who to get one from. I mean, do you guys think all the online retailers that will carry the F-14 will get there models in about the same time. I am just concerned about ordering one, and the guy I order one from would be the last guy to get the Tomcat model. Not sure what to do?
Fred, really looking forward to the JSI 1/18th scale Grumman F-14 Tomcat.

It is all sort of a ballancing act... Based on past releases, there will probably be some delay between retailers by about a week or so. Stores like Badcat are on the west coast and usually get the items in first. Places like Smalljoes are in the midwest and have to wait a little longer for the products to ship out.
Thus far, it seems that most retailers are selling the F-14s for the $219 pricetag, so deciding which retailer to go with may depend on which one will offer the cheapest shipping rate to your area. For example, I would pay the same price for a plane from either Badcat or Smalljoes. Badcat's shipping will be slightly cheaper as they are closer to me than Smalljoes, however, as a California resident, I have to pay sales tax, so the end price between BCA and Smalljoes comes out to be more-or-less the same. In that event, I currently have a preorder with Badcat so that I'll get my plane before everyone else
Further, I'll know next week if my local Hobbytown store will carry the F-14, when they should get it, and if I can reserve one, so that will help me save on the shipping. It might be worth a slight wait if I can save $40

Preordered mine today from Badcat. They were not sure how the shipping was going to work yet with a box thats going to weigh 15lbs. I have a P.O.Box. was told Priority mail will probably not be able to ship that. UPS is Badcats preferred shipper. Someone ordered from Flordia. 60 big ones to get it there.

i used the usps rate calculator for canada. I estimated both 10 pounds and 14 pounds. Shipping was between $33 and $40. The box size is within the 108 inch size restriction.
15 pounds sounds pretty high to me as well. Even if it is 15 pounds usps priority int'l to canada is $43.50....not sure where $70 is coming from, unless that's Express shipping, which is a total waste of money.

thats NUTS!!! i would cancel that order 70$ is crazy even if the plane wieghs 15 pound you can ship UPS ground anywhere in cont. usa for 26.50snake wrote:I preordered two from Smalljoes.
The difference for me was the shipping costs.Smalljoes offered USPS shipping.Far cheaper for me than UPS.
Still the shipping was $70 per plane.
I think they are making up for the lower retail price. others are offering 29.99 shipping ups in the cont-states

Hey guys,
I usually pay about $40+ for shipping the BBI F-18 to get here.So I figured that the $70 was not outrageous, considering the size, etc.
Maybe I was wrong. After seeing your reactions,I will check into it further.See what some of the other dealers charge for shipping to Canada.
Thanks for the help guys.It will have to wait until after the weekend,as I am off to Abottsford Airshow for a couple of days.

according to aviatornut the box size is: Retail Box Size: 33 x 22 x 10
Chunky but not immense.
So i don't understand why US shipping would be $39, especially living in California, which is pretty close, when Canadian shipping should be around $40. Unless it's being shipped by express courier or retailers are grossly exaggerating shipping charges?
