21C News

Post by rmoore456 » Thu May 05, 2005 2:13 pm

Spoke with Sean at 21C today. Here is some of the news he gave me. The 1/32nd P-47 should be out in July and the FW-190 they are still working on the tooling. We will probably see a Zero in 1/32nd before 1/18th. The current batch of 1/18 and 1/32 is only shipping to select Walmarts, near military installations, and there will be wider distribution in the fall possibly as early as August. The tooling for the 1/18 Avenger is still being worked on. There are several, he said, new products sitting at Walmart warehouses waiting for the current stock to sell down. He didn't elaborate on what the "new" products were. The 1/32 kits showing up are the same paint schemes as previously released. Look for more modern planes in the future.

You've seen the new 32x stuff. Are you near a military base????

Wow, now that's news! If what you say is correct about XD at Walmarts near military bases is true, that would explain why the WM here has all of the new stuff. It's near Dover AFB. Can anybody else near a base confirm this?? Thanks for the update. Hopefully tko211 can fill all of us in!

Guess that means no for Fresno as tgere is no large scale military base nearby, save for NAS Lemore, but then Fresno is home to the 144th TFW of the California Air National Guard, and also has a large Army National Guard base.

Well, why aren't they showing up here in DC??

You've got the $@#'ing PENTAGON here!

Not to mention Andrews AFB, and Arlington National Cemetary.

Of course, I'm not missing out. I went ahead and ordered mine from BCA. I figured I broke even (cost of shipping vs cost of gas+cost of my time), plus I picked up some things that WM probably wouldn't have had anyway, like the Eastern Warriors. Got a Spitfire while I was at it, which I had only seen once at WM.

That doesn't seem to make sense. We've got Davis-Mothan, and Fort Huachuca and Luke AFB close enough, and there ain't jack at any Walmart within 75 miles of here. Oh well, I guess two P47s in a store is too much 21C inventory, so they are waiting for them to "sell down".

Gotta love Wally world.

When you say more modern planes, do you mean in 1/18?

I should have clarified he did say the current 1/18 stuff. And no military base close. Although two of the three stores he mentioned that have the new 1/18 in Illinois, Waterloo and Sparta, is a stretch to say they are close to a military base. Scott AFB.

He didn't specify but at the time we were talking about the F-104 and Avenger.

Two P-47's I wish the local stores were that low. All nearby have at least 6 or more Fw-190's. He did admit they over did the Fw-190.
He did say the shipping was limited, only about 200 stores nationwide so I would even with a military base near it is no guarantee of getting anything.

Well, that explains why the WM's at Vacaville and Fairfield in Northern CA got the new XD stuff and the rest of the WM's are still waiting. Those two towns are near Travis AFB.

Yeah, &*#@ the hunt, I just get it from BCA or ebay if the price is right. I'm smack dab in the middle of WM country with the HQ just down the road with access to 24 stores readily and the drive, park, walk, search, walk, drive...IS GETTING OLD!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd have to agree, that getting items from Bad Cat or eBay is much better than trying to run down to all the WM's and find the same old junk. All the 190's at the local store are damaged and they still sit at full price. I sometimes wonder what those folks at 21st are smoking when they say how and where items are distributed. I'll bet Wal Mart calls the shots not them. Hell with the price of gas today, it's almost cheaper to deal with on-line merchants, at least that way, you know what your getting.
Oh yes, as far as the Avenger is concerned, with 21st still working on the tooling, it will not be here until the "cows come home." I'll bet an August delivery will be delayed until December again, and then who knows when.

When they say military installations, they must mean select Military installations, near large cities? Several of my WM's include ones right outside Quantico, Ft Meade, Andrews AFB, Ft Belvoir, Ft AP Hill and the most recent release(s) I've seen have been the 32x Aircraft and the 32x M113/Flak etc. I to order online but mostly diecast as I'd prefer to be able to handpick the 1:18 as quality control as of late has been not so good.

In regards to the Avenger, I'd be happy if we're able to have it on shelves by Christmas, but not holding my breath.

Huntsville, Alabama is practically built around Redstone Arsenal (and Marshall Space Flight Center) and we can't get squat at our Walmarts. So much for that theory about bases.

"tooling for the 1/18 Avenger is still being worked on"

OK, safe to say this thing isn't shipping at the end of the month, right?
BCA is looking more on point with their estimation....

WGP Klaus,

You need to check the WM on Hwy 198 next to Ft. Meade. I purchased the entire new stuff there. Marines, BoB, Panzer IV, M3A3, Corsair, Fw-190, Patton, 1/32 stuff, you name it they have it, except more planes than the ones mentioned. Now if you go to the WM at Ann Arundel Mills or Dobbins Mall al they have is FW190s. Maybe is select WMs and some near military bases. I need a P-47 and a Spitfire, I haven't seen those here to save my life. Good hunting, for those of you in D.C. Me I guess BCA is getting my dough for that P-47.

1/32 262

Post by gordon24 » Fri May 06, 2005 7:33 pm

I just picked up a 1/32nd ME-262 at the Modesto wal mart and the paint was different than my first one. This has a blue and white alternating checker type marking with a deaths head in a yellow shield for a squadron insignia. My first is just green and grey with green blotches along the length of the body, also they had a gaudy silver striped P-51,and the flying tiger P-40.

If that is the case, regarding Wal-Marts and military bases, I'm &%^$%^#$ because all i got around here is the wonderful Walt Disney World base!...

Man, that is so messed up!!!

get the items to all the Wal-Marts at least a set to try it out.

it is incredible to have the money to buy the stuff and it seems like they don't want to sell it to us!

poor, poor, poor!

75th:
I don't know about having to be near a major base to find stuff at WalMart. I live on the northernwestern tip of Washington State with one WalMart (not even a superstore), and yesterday I found ( 1/32)a 262A with the numbers 3 & 1; 109E4 Chevrons and a P40B Flying Tiger. They only received four planes, the three I bought and another P40B Flying Tiger. Hell the only base we have near here is a small coast guard facility at the harbor, nothing else. So there goes the "need to be near a base theory."
They still have 6 190s gathering dust in the old Motorworks boxes, going nowhere at full price.

The "new stuff" being discussed includes the new marine figures and the halftracks, neither of which have ever been stocked at a Walmart before. This is the stuff that is supposedly only found near military bases.

The stuff you're referring to ( 32x planes and 1:18 scale planes ) enjoys the normal widespread, spotty distribution.
