What about the "Get a real job and save money instead of wasting it on gas driving to Wal Marts to look for toys" option :P

Thats how I'm saving for my JSI F-14 8)

... and its Ramen noodles. Romaine is a type of fancy lettuce and not very good for making noodles

I'm going to issue two-year "1/18 bonds." These will be denominated in U.S. dollars, so by the time they come due, the effect of the coming wave of inflation will mean that the actual price for me will be $2.39.

I'm hoping I can sell them to the Chinese government.

You also forgot the "don't have that problem" option for those that aren't buying it.

True. I have a limit that I will pay for a toy which is what this is any way you look at it. Maybe a little over $100 but not $200 regardless of how much I might enjoy having one. But, everyone has their own perspective on it and I respect that.

Got you on that, but I'm really not all that great. I simply work hard and if one avenue does not pan out, then I keep myself open to changing courses. I've spent the past 5 years at least (well before the tough times) working a lot but making very little as a part time instructor and tutor. I had a goal of becoming a full time professor. Well, given the tough times and colleges not hiring professors, praticularly those for non-essential subjects like history, I knew I had to do something different for the time being.

So I changed directions and looked into different opportunities. I kpet myself flexible, and even considered moving if it meant I had a good job opportunity. Most of the options I explored didn't pan out, but then eventually one did. Now I'm a grant writer. Certainly not as cool as being a professor, but its a job.

While I was going through my own hardships, it was very tempting to sit back and complain about how my life sucked because I made less than $1000 a month. Certainly playing with toys was also much more fun than filling out applications or going to interviews. Those behaviors were detremental in the end and where I perhaps offer a good example is that I didn't sit on my ass and complain about my situation or do nothing about it. I tightened my belt when it was necessary and moved on.

Eventually hard work and persistence paid off, so now I will be able to afford a JSI F-14 with little worry. Luck has little to do with anything, its all about ones actions and choices, recession or not

Sorry to go so far off topic, but this recession and tough times are parly a state of mind and if one wants to break it, only they can do it.

While these are great looking 1:18th aircraft, I'm not getting any. It's just that I don't collect modern. I must say they do look very tempting........I just hope someone comes out with 21st's King Tiger. :)

I believe my debit card says "Visa". So I am going with Visa, tied to cold cash.
It just means resisting the urge to buy more bike accessories for a month or two. Of course, if the releases are staggered out as much as I expect, I don't see a problem, anyway.

If interest rates go up I Don't think to many will be charging theirs to Plastic...unless they are like FieroDude and use a debit card.

I still might use a credit card over my debit card....but then I'm responsible with my credit card and make sure that I have the good old hard cash set a side to pay the credit card off at the end of the month before I use it.
Go Ugly Early in 1/18!!
