Does the 1/18 world need a Duece and a half ?

Hey Guys,

Mr. Pierce of Oregon says that the Indy Russian truck is based off of a 2 1/2 ton US army truck. I do not know one way or the other. I do not have the Indy truck. He said that the Indy truck could be reconverted to a duece and a half.

I am not sure if this has been covered or not. I think that the 2 1/2 ton truck is still being used . Not a bad life span.

Is the 1/18 scale world ready for a duece and a half ? Has some one made one already ?

Needs bigger tires, i have about 8 of those trucks, complements of big lots at 6.99 a pop. Do you want to see pictures?

........... The Indy truck is actually based on a GMC CCKW 353 chassis & German Mercedes-Benz LG3000 not Russian though.

The actual truck from the movie was a mock up. The engine, running gear and chassis as Mitch says was a GMC 353 CCKW deuce and a half from WW2 era.

CCKW's were used through the Korean war and was replaced by the "M" series of deuce and a half. Having driven all kinds of deuce and a half's in parades and just to "mess around", besides of course from my years of playing with trucks in the Army, A truck driver was not my job, but I volunteered driving whenever I could. I always thought the post war "M" series trucks were larger trucks. If you are interested I can verify that. My library covers them all.

The Hasbro Indy truck is a good representative of the truck used in the movie, which had the CCKW chassis.

I have the German one, which is pretty distinctively German based, as best I can tell. Did they release one of the trucks used by the Russians in the last movie, too? If so, it never made it my AO...

a 1/18 duece and a half would be much larger than the indy truck. While the indy truck may be based on the deuce and a half, it's not 1/18 scale. You can get away with using it as a smaller generic german truck, but if you're going to change it back to a deuce and a half you're going to end up with a 1/21 scale deuce and a half, not a 1/18 scale one.

The only big truck associated with the Indy movies and made by Hasbro in 1/18 that I am aware of is the German truck used in Raiders. That is the truck that Mitch and I speak of that is actually a mock up of an American deuce & a half chassis with a German mock up body.

When the producers made the movie they found that using an actual MB truck would be too expensive as it is rare while CCKW's were a dime a dozen.

yes but the hasbro truck isn't a 1/18 representative of the one in the movie, it's under scale. It can be used as a smaller german truck, but it is not a 1/18 representative of the one in the movie...it's about a 1/21 scale representative of the one in the movie.

Sure wish 21st would have made the GMC version of the Deuce.
The Dodge is great, but I think the GMC would have been nice too.

The FOV one is pretty nice but 1:32. It seems to be very popular, but costs more than a 1:18 truck.

I'd say we have a nice representation of US trucks. While a 2-1/2 ton truck would be all well and good, something German perhaps would tickle one's fancy even more.

I would like a 1:18 German Opel truck though. Both need to be made.

I will try not to beat a dead horse here but will the Indy wheels work for a duece and a half ? The truck body and all , I can work with but the wheels are something else. Are they the right scale or close ?

When I made the Gaz I noticed that the Indy wheels are only half a wheel. Kind of cheapy is it not ?

Not only are the wheels on the Indy truck close to a Duece & a Half, the wheels on the Indy truck ARE a Duece wheels.

For the movie, the producers could not find an antique German truck that would be reliable AND that they could "mess with", so they took a relatively cheap WW2 CCKW 353 and made a mock up from the wheels and suspension up. They key in identifying the Duece was the front axle which was clearly a Duece.

The original Indy story had the truck as a "generic" four wheeled German truck. The movie makers expanded on the story and the truck.

Hasbro copied the movie truck, not being concerned about being correct, as far as the truck is concerned...... the "nobody will notice the difference"...Hollywierd credo....

It would be alot of work but the wheels are there.
