Re: 1/18 Scale Custom Sdkfz 251 Stuka Aiming Sights Needed
Mathew, which Hanomag will be best to use for the panzer short barrel kit? The regular one,or the one with the pak 40? I am asking because the pak 40 Hanomag has a small bench seat and some sort of a cabinet with opening door for storing projectiles, while the regular Hanomag does not have much floor room because of the two long bench seats and no cabinet for the projectiles.By the way i am really exited about this short builds kits, like many other members i have a few of Hanomags for this projects.

Hey Tank Ace,
I really do not know . I have not gotten that far with the project.
When I am ready to start I usually get a 1/35 scale model and work off of that.
I would kind of think the layout would be similar to the PAK. If not I will make the correct modifications.
Like I did for the M-3 American half track. Which was a success as well.
With the 222 style turret I really would not need the model. I already have the turret made and all I need to do is blank in the top.
There are plenty of 251s out there. So hopefully a lot of guys will be into these mods as well.

The regular one, the pak 40 version has all that bracing that is not easy to remove, plus that cartridge storage bench was not on to many stummels if any, the stummels shells were shorter and were placed on the wall...TankAce wrote:Mathew, which Hanomag will be best to use for the panzer short barrel kit? I am very surprised that nobody voted for the radio version.
I will be doing this anyway without popular demand.
Almost every unit used them.
There also seems to be no interest in the aim arms for the PAK except one guy.
So that idea will go back on the shelf.

Re: 1/18 Scale Custom Sdkfz 251 Stuka Aiming Sights Needed
I know 21st made thousands of each, but which 251 is the rarest ?
The pioneer with bridging ? The 251/7 ?
They used those a lot to make many other variants .
Also Jnewboy, your 251 is the LATE variant.
What is the difference between yours and the mid production 251/9 ?
I see the extra armor for the crew any other changes ?

I think the only major change was they mounted the gun higher on the late version (mine) so it could rotate alittle, the early ones had the gun built in next to the driver... Smittyrob64 is building a great early version, check this out:pickelhaube wrote:I know 21st made thousands of each, but which 251 is the rarest ?

What did you use as a bases for your rendition ?
Did you use a 1/35 model ?
I have a mid production model but I do not have the late version.
I can either pay $50 for a late model kit or $50 for the Nuts and Bolts 251/9 book.
If you used the model do you still have it ? Oh buddy ole pal.

Re: Which 1/18 Scale Sdkfz 251 Made Was the Rarest ?
by short barrel cannon panzer iii type do you mean the stummel? It had the same short barrel 75mm as the panzer iv (not iii).
of the choices, the drilling (3 barrel anti aircraft) is probably one of the best. It was the second most produced anti aircraft vehicle, after the sdkfz 7/1. The stummel and flame throwing versions were also used a fair bit.
the IR searchlight version is kinda neat, i guess but saw virtually no combat use.

i never met an airplane i didn't like...

Re: Which 1/18 Scale Sdkfz 251 Made Was the Rarest ?
The Horten is proceeding but I need to start other projects to in order to bring in some income.
So as I am pouring other orders as the Horten proceeds I will put even more on my plate
The C version is almost ready to cast. Then I will do the 251/23 version with the 222 type turret.
Then I will make a couple of tarpaulins to cover the tops. A full cover and the second will be a 3/4 cover.
These will instantly change the look of the 251.
Then the radio antenna .
Then the stummel

I like the idea.It is simple and i no modifications will be necessary to the Hanomag.I guess that the curved top helps to slide a grenade if thrown to the top.

One thing about the tarp cover.
There does not seem to be a lot of interest in the ambulance. But with the tarp cover.
You can convert any 251 to an ambulance ( most of them had the covers to protect the injured ).
Pop the cover on paint red crosses on the side .
BAMM... instant ambulance .

No they will be 2 different kits.
But you could use them both together.
