I was going to announce that the 251 s are ready to ship and as I scaned down the pictures I noticed this is how I was supposed to make the lamp bases .

Image

And this is how I made them .

Image

I need to look at them I may just send the boxes because I can make the tiny fender pieces and put them in an envelope .

Received my kit Monday. Matthew, are there some assembly information? Lot of small parts and not sure where they go. Thanks again for all your effort.

To start I made the rear clam shell piece in one piece this will be a lot easier to install the hinge system.
But once you glue the clam shell on there will be no more taking the top and bottom hulls apart so you need to think about how your going to paint it.

I am going to make 2 semi full builds ( unpainted ) and the way I will make them is I will glue the back clam shell on and make another joint behind the tool boxes so the join will be hidden and the guy can paint it a lot easier.

If there is interest I will show how I am going to do this .

Also one of the 251s I am using is the Stuka rocket launcher it was a big mistake to use this platform because there will be a lot of work to change the details to make it back dated or correct.

You should use the standard 251 issue gray green or yellow.

First you need to pop off the old tool boxes. They came off real easy on one of them the other not so easy

Next you need to lay out the cutting , no measuring here just square off next to the rear hull stub and cut across the back side

Image

Cut off the top of the hull at the same you cut off the bottom AS THE HULLS ARE SCREWED TOGETHER .

Image

A the hulls are screwed together make offthe front side of the bonnet to be cut . From the top of the fender to the inside corner . Mark both sides .

Image

At this time it will be easier to cut after separating top and bottom hulls. 6 screws hold the hulls together .
After cutting you are going to have a gap through the body sides .

This is where those lightning bolt looking pieces come into play. they should glue right into place to cover the open section.

Make sure you use the correct piece for the correct side . After you install the fill pieces you may want to paint them before the next step . Because if you decide you will being connecting the hull halves together and may not get another chance to paint them.

Burn off the nibs both sides as you have the hulls apart and spackel them at this time

Cut the nib off of the back as well.

Image

Now we are ready for the money piece . The doors and hinges should be done before you stick them on because getting the hinges to fit right will be a MAJOR PAIN with it attached .

Tape the doors ( or spot glue ) exactly were you want them to be .

Image
Image

Flip the clam shell over and test fit the hinges .

Image

The short end should go up tight against the clam shell. I made stops to help in alignment .
The brass hinge slides up and down so you can adjust the alignment on the doors.

Center the short hinge on the stops AND SPOT GLUE THE TOP OF THE SHORT HINGE ONLY. The white plastic nub where it hits the stop .Shoot it with kicker so it holds .

This will hold things steady now align the large brass pins on the doors . You may have to wiggle one way or the other to align the pins to the stops.

Once you get them in place spot glue TOP AND BOTTOM and hit them with kicker .

Then go back to the bottom of the short hinge and spot glue it .

Once you get all of the hinges spotted ( the white plastic nubs ) go back and secure glue making sure you keep away from the brass so it can swing.
Image

That is about it . You can look at the pics to see where all the little parts go .

If you guys have any questions ask them here so I can answer and maybe it can help the other guys as well.

It should be a relatively easy mod to do :D :D :D

When attaching the clam shell I found it easier to remove the back rests inside the cabin.

Image

Once you have the clam shell installed puttied up and finished install the d handle door handle
Image

Locate the bonnet armor in line with the bonnet doors . Front edge aligned with front edge .
Image

Driver side pioneer gear location.
Note were turn signal is located behind bonnet armor.
INSTALL LAST THING THEY ARE EASY TO POP OFF .

Image

Location of radio operator's side pioneer gear .

Image

Install NOTEK light about 3/16 of an inch back from the point of the bonnet.
The bottom bill of the helmet should be even with the sharp edge of the bonnet.
Notice the side visors. They should be the same hight as the front visors and hold them even with the weld seem on the upper armor .

Image

That should be about it .

Thanks for those links !!!

When this is ready to start , I think that I will sell this with 2 options

1. Antenna only
2. Antenna with radios/power generator.

Some may want the antenna only because all you would have to do is paint and stick. Were as the radio equipment will require some cutting and fitting to the 251 that some may feel apprehensive in doing.
