Blue Angels

Hi Everyone,
I finally got my diamond up this afternoon. Take a look at the pics not the clutter in the background.

I broke down and decided to do 5 and 6 also. Hopefully they'll be done by the end of the week. My only probably now is room. I'll probably have to move everything around again. :?

Wow! I am VERY envious. If I had enough to spend on that, I would buy 1-4 and 6 to make the full delta formation. GREAT job!

VERY nice!

I see you're working on a JC Penny jet.

Blue Angels as well?

I've got two to do. One Blue Angels and one in the "Jolly Rogers" livery...someday...Maybe even this year.

Thanks guys, I was going to make the delta but I'm going to try and recreate P51's pic of the solo's passing. It looks cool and it will take up less room.
I am happy with the Blue Angels and my wife says they look much better in person than in the pics.
The JC Penney jet is coming along but its a lot of putty and sanding. I already bought the decals for a regular airforce F22. Hopefully my patience doesn't run out before I finish it.

Ah cool! :-D Tell you what, not that you really need it to see the planes better, but I'll send you a larger version of the solo passing shot I got if you'd like Bruzzer if it'll help. Very cool. I'll make a pact with myself that after I get through all the travels I'll be doing soon and I get the new photography equipment I'll get the other solo and start on the diamond.

Great looking work! What did you use for the gloss? I was planning to put a shine on my single Blue Angel. I have some Tamiya clear lacquer, but I've heard that there may be a problem using it on some of the sections of the F-18 model.

Again, very impressive display!!

Thanks All, I used Testor model master gloss coat on all the planes. I then used future over the top for a better shine.
I borrowed a plastic tub and put 2 bottles of future in. Then I dunked the wings and tailplanes. Let all the excess future drip and off and put them off to dry. They turned out better than when I tried to airbrush the future on the first plane. The fuselage was to big for the tub so I hand brushed it on. This takes a while.
My #1 plane had the gloss coat and future done in October and it still looks good. I wiped the dust off and only touched up a small area that the fishing wire was rubbing on the future.
I know someone else must have a formation out there somewhere. Come on lets see it, that way my wife won't thank I'm nuts and I can keep buying planes.
Yes P51, I'd like to see that solo passing shot. Thanks!

It's a semi-1/6 scale jet that looks kinda like an F-22.

JC Penny had 'em for about $40 originally. I think I paid $10 for mine on clearance, with a free shipping coupon. In fact, I bought three, one for me and one each for my two nephews, then the darn things didn't arrive until after New Years, so I ended up selling the two spares to guys in my local club. I ended up with a second one in a trade deal.

One of the neat things about it is that one of the 1/6 customizers, Patches of Pride, did decals for them. He did a variety of USAF and USN sets, plus a Blue Angels set, plus three different NASA sets (1960s, 1980's and current).

Of course, it's the ONLY jet available, except for the JD Simone one.

Some of the guys have put some nice cockpits in them, but I bought mine for the paint job possibilities.

I bought the patches of pride decals (modern subdued) for the JC Penney plane. The decals were almost as expensive as the plane but they look nice and detailed.
I'm planning to just do the exterior and hang it up far away in the back. The length and wingspan are actually very close to 1/18. It does look toylike compared to the BBI and 21st planes. I tried to google info on the plane online and have come up empty. The manufacturer is Fairlandtoy Intl out of Hong Kong. I could be mistaken but I thought they had a F15 out before the F22?

Yes, Mark does good work. I bought decals from him for two of the F-22 jets and three of the big 21C 1/6 AH-6 helos (AT, USN and USCG). I've also used his interior sets on a couple of my helos.

In fact, I think I'll drop Mark a line and see if he plans to do any 1/18 sets for the F-104.

Not that I recall, but it probably wouldn't have caught my eye.

I added a few pics of #5 and #6. I used existing hooks to put the planes up. I'm not sure how much I like it. I may drill some new holes or put them in the delta. Let me know what you think. Should I leave it, change it closer to P51s pic or put them in the delta.
