Dust off all your 1/18th spits....

Post by mikeg » Tue Jun 24, 2008 2:16 pm

MTS has one boxed for the asking price of 199.00 - come on down, the price is right, lets see if we can give the black f-18s a run for their money.

The Spitfire is one of the 1:18th aircraft I never found here in the North East. I did find one down in Yulee Fla. sweet airplane.

I remember a few on the WM shelves for a while, too. I recently saw an ebay auction with a loose NKK Spit that sold for nearly $170! I have an NKK Spit in loose but good condition... Only problem is that if I sold it, I wouldn't have it anymore and I happen to like that particular plane

spitfire

Post by supersonicfifi » Wed Jun 25, 2008 3:08 am

the spitfire is of course one of my favorite airplanes and was one of the fisrt purchased 3 years ago. This model remind me an old model i had when i was ten years old (i think it was the 1:24 airfix one crafted by my older cousin) and when i saw for the fisrt time the 1:18 model it made me the same effect ! but i grew up and the model too

I think this model is one of the best because evry pieces are well done and have good joint + it's extremly strong (the landing gear is very strong too and there is not that much mobile parts)

the canopy is working with the little door detailled (it gives a good feeling of reality)

the model is simple but highlly realistic (and small if you compare with all the other aircraft)

i completly understand the frenzy around this model if you don't have one !

But i think 21 st or the others should move to latter marks now (like the hobby master Griffon 1/48 one)

1/18 mirage 2000 & RAFALE should i say more ?

I have been asking 21C to do another Spitfire for over a year now. It's been a while and I would like to see a new release of that plane as well as the F-86.

Anyway- I thought I might pop on and say hi to everyone. I have been lurking on the forum these past couple months. 21C has been very quiet. I have been tempted to get on a plane and just show up to poke my head around and see what they are working on. LOL

I did get a picture of the S1 32x spitfire in my email today with instructions to post an article so hopefully it is a sign of more things to come. Like everyone else I guess I will have to wait and see what happens next!

I bought my Spitfire at Walmart for $10.00. With what they are going for now, I wish I had bought a few more at the time.

I am a big fan of the 21st Century Spitfire as well. To me one of the best looking features of the model are the wheels and tires. Nice fat looking tires that really capture the look or the prototype.

Hi everyone, I'm new here. Longtime collector of 1:18, 1:32, and 1:6 scale Ultimate Soldier, GI Joe, etc.

Anyways,
Just paid $146 for the ZPA black/ white bottomed Spitfire on eBay. Which is slightly below what the more common NKK is going for. Go figure that.

Never saw the ZPA at retail, and by the time I realized I didn't have one whoa! the prices jumped. Oh well got one now.

Now I am just missing the DWK.
(too bad I didn't buy any BBI Jets)

I wish 21st would issue an Eagle Sqaudron Spitfire 1:18 like the recently released 1:32 one, which is going for way too much to all the eager beavers who can't wait for it to show up at Walmart or TRU for $15.

Sadly we won't be seeing any. While I was at the MTS booth at EAA Airventure I ran into someone. I asked him if several questions about future 1/18 models including the possibility of a Spitfire repaint. He told me that we wouldn't be seeing any because the spitfire castings were damaged during a move to a different factory. He didn't know release dates of the KT, 88, or Bush Avenger. But, he did tell me that he offered to pay for any costs and take all the risks away from 21c and they denied his generous offer.

Cost and risk of what?
The costs of labor, plastic, tooling, and paint. The risks that it would be overproduced, too expensive, and may not sell.

So to get this straight, to date we have heard about 21st: Loosing moulds in storage; moulds damaged in moves; moulds lost in moves; and moulds destroyed in a fire. All this to what is arguably the companies' most valuable assets. Just who's in charge of these moulds???

LOL on Bob

No offense, but is that damaged Spitfire casting/mold story verifiable anywhere?

That's a biggie

Time for BBI to step in and make the Spitfire. If the mold is broke at 21st, there would be no competition. If they did it with as much detail like the upcoming 109, it would be excellent.

Hmm... good idea! BBI could do exactly what they did with the Bf-109 with a Spit by simply making a later model like a Mark IX or something. It would still have the classic look, but have just enough visual differences (wing cannon, four-blade prop, canopy framing, radiators, etc.) to not be a copy of the 21c plane. Do one in a North African campaign scheme and they have the perfect partner for their Bf-109G-2 8)

Yeah a later version would probably be the choice thing to do. I mean I don't want all my 3 Spits to go down in value either. But would be pleased with whatever Spitfire BBI released because of the detail (though I think 21st could match it lately)

I would love to see a North African version too, though didn't most of them have the big tropical scoop under the nose? As well as the Hurricane too?
This would be a little extra sculpting but would be well worth it, not to mention the cool desert camo.
