Indiana Jones Colonel Vogel Figure

Post by dandaman » Mon May 05, 2008 6:06 pm

I figured this question deserved its own thread...

What do you think the collector response is going to be like when Vogel hits the pegs?

Be honest, you know it's going to be the most sought after figure in the line.

Comments?

Trailer

Post by dandaman » Mon May 05, 2008 6:27 pm

I just finished watching the trailer for the film again, and I noticed some other exciting possibilities.

They have these guys who look like US troops, but had AK47s. They had a distinct "Fidel Castro" style cap. These would make excellent Cuban soldiers.

Also, there were some Russians sporting what looked like 1950s style Red Chinese soft caps. With some head swapping, these would make great Chinese Red Army soldiers.

Do you think they'll make these guys?

those are US Army uniforms, but I do not want to go into the plot on why they have AK-47s... let's wait until after we all see the movie. :D

Like Tambo says, the clips from "The Crystal Skull", shows US troops with black boots and the pillbox hard cap. BTW, Castro did use that cap, having been given surplus US Army uniforms.

The "1951 model soft cap", was a crusher baseball type cap. US soldiers used in the Korean War, uniform was, the soft cap with brown boots. After the Korean War, the Army switched to the hard sided round "pillbox" hat and switched to black boots. While it may look silly, in practice, it was stiff and just begged to be worn with stiff starched tailered fatigues and blowsed trousers. At that time we were sharp looking soldiers. Every post had tailers who tailered shirts and trousers (even some field jackets) and we took pleasure in shining up those black boots.

What we are looking at is mid to late 1950's US Army uniforms. Weapons should be M-1 rifles and M-1 Carbines. If it takes place in late 50's into very early 1960's, rifles can be M-14's. In the early 1960's, the Army switched to the super ugly straight baseball cap, and baggy fatigues. 8)

Technically Hasbro has announced them, as that's where the first pictures came from Aferg, but you're right that they're not out. Vogel's in desert officer fatigues and not one person's shown a photo of one found in the "wild" yet. I wouldn't expect them immediately.

The Last Crusade wave, of which Vogel is a member, will be out around July.

Here's a pic of the Colonel himself -

Looks pretty good. I wish we were getting Dietrich this year, though. Vogel was very underdeveloped as a character, little more than a henchman.

I can predict LOTS of customizing potential for the users of this forum!

I see they changed the armband color from the correct red to all black. Yet he still bears the Totenkopf Skull on his officers cap.

How exactly do you "pre-order" from their site?
I don't see a way to get the figure to the cart :?

a good figure to start a custom Paul Hausser figure

Image

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Hausser
Hausser served in the Polish Campaign of 1939 as an observer with the mixed Wehrmacht/SS Panzer Division "Kempf". In October 1939 SS-VT was formed as a motorized infantry division with Hausser in command. He led the division, later renamed 2nd SS Division Das Reich, through the French campaign of 1940 and in the early stages of Operation Barbarossa. For his services in Russia, Hausser was awarded the Knight's Cross in 1941 and the Oak Leaves in 1943 (he was to get the Swords for his services in Normandy) and was severely wounded, losing an eye. After recovering he commanded the newly formed SS-Panzer Corps (renamed II SS Panzer Corps in June 1943) and against Hitler's explicit orders withdrew his troops from Kharkov to avoid encirclement, only to recapture the city in March 1943. He led 1st, 2nd and 3rd SS divisions during the Battle of Kursk. After Kursk, his Corps was reformed (substituting the 1st, 2nd and 3rd SS Panzer Divisions with the 9th and 10th SS divisions) and sent to France where he commanded them in the early stages of the Normandy Campaign. After the death of the commander of Seventh Army - Friedrich Dollmann - Hausser was promoted to the command of Seventh Army. During the Falaise encirclement, Hausser remained with his troops until he was wounded (shot through the jaw). Paul Hausser was promoted to Oberstgruppenführer or Colonel General of the Waffen SS in August 1944 and subsequently commanded Army Group G from 28 January to 3 April 1945. He ended the war on Generalfeldmarschall Albert Kesselring's staff. At the Nuremberg Trials he vigorously defended the military role of the Waffen SS and denied that it was heavily involved in war-crime atrocities.

I'm hoping that either TRU or WM will have him available online when it comes out. I've ordered most of my IJ stuff on-line.

You can almost bank on the black band being the final product. I'm hoping not, as I'd like to just simply do a custom job on the red/white band, but the black band was a more recent photo, and I think Hasbro simply changed it to remove any possible confusion/debate on the matter.

Expect black armbands. I'll be shocked if they're anything different.
