What is taking them Sooo long ??? rant-sort of

Post by General Blasto » Tue Apr 08, 2008 10:36 am

I just don't understand it.
Why it is taking sooo long for the new XD 21st figures to show up at TRU, WM or Evil bay  I have finally found some of the DAK machine gunners at a TRU in Atlanta this past weekend, but I still have yet to find the DAK artillary spotter and the German rifleman(well I did find one of him on evil bay but paid close to $50 for him  ) and I still need at least 6 more of each. Even on Evil bay there is a lack of finding these 2 guys :( I can't afford to buy all the platoon figures to clear out the pegs down here at the WMs, I did get a couple sets for the heads as well as a couple sets of the VN guys at TRU(look for these guys with different heads on my next list  ), but where are these new figures ??? I'll trade a plane for 4 or 5 of these figures, but where are they :? The supply lines are gettin' real bogged down it seems . I guess I must live in the wrong place  Da General

I know i hate waiting for these to show up
I Talked to a guy stocking some GI JOES at wm and i asked him about the 21st toys and he told me that they have 2 boxs in the back but they can't stock them til the other stuff sells. all they have are platoon figures
and they are not selling. the same thing with target they won't put out new stuff till every peg is empty.

And you guys think you have it bad?? At least you have the new DAK figures and the Platoon figs. They have not shown on my end, and probably will not for quite some time as the restocks of last year's D-Day figures are not selling. I'm tired of all the bellyaching from you easterners that get all the good stuff and then wait a month and complain that its not selling. Count your blessings that you have items on your shelves that are at least new from within the past few months.

Still, its not really any of your fault, just the distribution patterns of the stores...

Were is the KT, 88, B-25, F-4 and Mig -21. Those are the real questions to ask.

Considering figures probably make up some of the investment into vehicles because figures are so cheap to produce and often eventually turn into pure profit...

I'd think everyone should care about those figures. ;)

T-mans got it right about the West coast. I have not yet seen the dual packs. Heck, it is so bad that when I found restocks containing the DD camo SS figures early this year they were first I have ever seen!

My thoughts exactly on the lack of new figures in the west. I haven't spotted any of the Platoon or dual pack sets at any retailer. The only new figures I have found are the DAK machine gunner and tne D'Amato Vietnam figure. That's it!!!!

Here in Columbus I have found 4 of the Nam guys and the Dak machine gunner. No duel packs though. I'm not going to complain however because it seems some of you fellas have it way worse. :) Maybe, just maybe, 21st's distribution will even out one day.

OK, its true in some areas of the East you can find Vietnam and Platoon figures but in my AO thats it. There are no new DAK figures nor are there any dual packs around here.
Never got the Panzer IV's, Avengers or the FOV Tiger I in the North East. Guess its all about crappy distribution.

just a side note.... these Platoon (the ones I've seen) figures got this "copper tone" orange skin tone, not as dark as the S2 D-Day figs but orangish.

21st could eliminate a lot of frustration by simply having a company store that sold the items at suggested retail. :?

Agreed.
21st DOES have a company store type set up on their web site I found, but it only lists clearance items and parts - mostly 1/6th. If they DID do a listing of current items sold at retail prices they would A). make more $$$ for their products, B). have a whole lot of happy fans and collectors, and C). have a whole lot less overhead and over stock in shop ;) :) another 2 cents worth 8) Da General

What about retailers that buy huge quantities - wouldn't they be upset if 21C sold at MSRP themselves and basically shut them out? That is why few companies do this.

Agreed digger, you don't want to upset your dealers. But in counterpoint, who has the DAK and dual packs available on-line? The only place I have seen the Nam figures is smalljoes. If you aren't sending certain items to your retailers are you really competing with them?

Not to mention running a retailing business is, as the name states, a completely separate business... Hasbro was reluctant for years to open a direct-to-consumer online retailing business. They didn't want to do it despite being asked repeatedly to do so because they had to hire basically a whole new staff and equipment to run it. 21st would be in the same boat on an admittedly smaller scale.

Still, it's a new business... And would it reach enough people to be worth it? Probably not. Plus keeping items in stock isn't easy... 21st can't just punch in an order for a dozen Tigers, or Panzers... They'd have to order in bulk just like everyone else, for it to be feasible.

Maybe they'll try it at some point, who knows really, but considering they aren't seemingly keeping their business partnerships going, I doubt they're even considering much of a venture like this.

I went to TRU today and asked a guy when the new 21st Century figs would be in. He said they would be in on the next truck (maybe). He also mentioned that they don't keep stuff in the back when peg slots are open. In this case 12 out of 24 were free. So if they had any in the back they would have put them on the pegs. This was just my TRU experience. I thought I would share.
