what would these be worth these days? 2st C planes

Post by Cabe » Mon Mar 17, 2008 10:31 pm

I have an original ME109, the Mustang LouIX a desert snake Stuka and a P-38 (green Samantha Payton). They have been hanging from my ceiling for years with extra parts in a box.
I was wondering if any of these are worth a toot. If not, I may do some repaints on them, like the p-38 to change it to a "halekala" paint scheme then sell it.

the best thing to do is to check completed listings on the well known auction sites. The P-51 from the first series is so inferior to the second generation P-51s that it is most likely the lowest value, but I would think that all of the other three are easily worth more than you paid for them.

yes, i agree. both the 51 and the ME109 were pretty crap
But to a collector...
but i will look about.
Do you think a repaint of the p-38, as I mentioned, would sell?

Repaints haven't been as successful as the builders would have thought. Turns out, to have a truly professional-looking plane, the skill level of the person doing it and the time required means the price of the finished product is going to be maybe 3 or 4 times the original plane.

I have all of the P-38's and Samantha Payton is the least complex of the green planes. Haleakala is the most complex.

I think you could get over $100 for Samantha if it's really nice.

Unless it was perfect, a custom-repaint Haleakala might not even get that. There is something to be said for the value of an older original.

Just my thoughts.

so you think if i put my Samantha up on ebay with an initial bid of $1000 saying it has been hung from the ceiling for it's entire existence and all parts are here, it would get that much?

Ummm, no.

(Just my two and one-half cents.)

(Adjusted for inflation, but taking the devalued state of the dollar into account, of course.)

P.S. Cool avatar pic. :D
