Well I think companies will go so far with detail as long as it does not start adding to the cost. They would be cutting their own throats then.
I think reasonable features are movable control surfaces, operating gear and canopies, full arnament and perhaps viewable engine detail. The rest is gravy.

Detail
Welcome me122172, always good to have more NYers I see your point on the cockpit - someone said the same to me about the interior of my favorite tank - but don't worry about costs, they know what they are doing. If you look here http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/ ... /zero5.htm
you see where they saved money, and I'm all for it! If we could get Tamiya models scaled up, pre-built and painted for $50, we should be pigs in....Seriously....how much do they get for the 1/35 pre-built Tamiya stuff? You need a mortgage.
I think the bbi Zero has the kind of detail that "sets the bar." IMO that is up there with gun bays (which should be standard) and engine access (too, should be standard). Even XD planes from a few years ago are starting to seem like big hunks of plastic compared to what the companies are doing now. More power to you AC guys - the numbers are paying off. Please, embrace added detail for a few extra bucks, it's what we've been lobbying for around here for years.

Thanks for the welcome,
I am a very large proponent of added detail and realism. I would gladly pay more for a plane with added movable parts such as gun doors, engine cowling access panels that are movable etc.
However, I just have issues with added detail that had nothing to do with the original plane. Why add a function that makes absolutely no sense?
The original A6M2 did not have a cockpit that came out of the airplane!
They give you a worthless function (a removable cockpit in 1:18 scale) and then forget to put folding wing-tips on an A6M2 Type "0" Model 21
I love extra realism, but keep it just that "realism."
Just my opinion

for anyone that really wants them i don't imagine it would be overly difficult to make folding wingtips. Just saw them off and make some sort of small hinge, maybe out of tiny pieces of lead foil or something.
I'm sure somebody will come up with a clever idea...

nothing wrong with speaking your mind
Hey, hey - if we couldn't comment there would be no board....all reasonable "gripes" are welcome as are retorts We're all psyched for the plane so don't worry....KAGNEW wrote:lets be thankfull for the LONG over do Zero and quit griping.
As for the folding wings, nobody needs the tail hook either but it's cool they have it, no? I see the point concerning the cockpit v. the wings but maybe they will paint it again in a scheme that would not have had them?
It's just the tips so it's no big deal imo - as long as the gear, etc...are good.
If the whole wing folded like the Corsair it would be a must have feature (it does save space, even without a carrier ) .

Shut up! This is so cool! BBi is amazing! This is what I'm talking about. The cockpit absolutely rules. This is the first time I'm tempted to by 2 Planes.
You know 21st is doing an awsome interior on the avenger - and I cannot wait to see it, either.
Modelling tip - If you can removing the cockpit, as BBI has done - it makes it easy to detail and mod. If you want to display it out to show detail - great. It you prefer it inside for a diorama - great.
If you just want to play with it - great.
You want to encourage this level of detail and sophistication. Have you seen any of these get more expensive? I spent more on my S1 Laura Michellle mustang than any of the lastest series planes of the same size. Price will not be an issue.
Lastly, don't be surprised if the wing tips do fold. If they are willing to detail the cockpit to this degree, it's likely they are paying attention to the rest of the plane. And that suites me fine. I will keep buying if they continue like this. Now for some serious armour with interior.... and a Harrier ....
Oh, by the way a katana is over 2 feet long, a wakizashi is 1 - 2 feet long and a tanto or aikichi is up to 1 foot long.
Normally, the pilots were issues with a special tanto for sepuku ( hara kiri). It looks like the pilot either has an O-tanto or ko-wakizashi ( O is big, ko is small) which would be a family piece - rather than militatry issue.

Well with threats like that I am definitely not going to tell you where I am....but I am sure you will enjoy the Zero
To all
Interesting comments about the Zero and nice to see it stirs some "passion" in all of you.
We do hope that those of you that purchase one will enjoy it. With regard to the lack of folding wings and the comments on the removable cockpit...all I can say is....."that is what we are offering" "

LOL!!!! That would be a great movie to recreate hanging from the ceiling! Funny.......Timbo wrote:Well the only reason I ordered one was so that when a 1/18 F-14 comes out, it will have something to chase around
By the way, has anybody seen Final Countdown on DVD yet??

Yes indeed, it's been out for awhile.By the way, has anybody seen Final Countdown on DVD yet??
There's also a special two-disk, limited edition version with all sorts of extras including an excellent discussion among several of the VF-84 pilots who flew in the movie. Their casual behind-the-scenes commentary is priceless if you really dig the movie.
Thanks.... I'll have to conduct a search for the Japanese fleet......Sentinel wrote:Yes indeed, it's been out for awhile.By the way, has anybody seen Final Countdown on DVD yet??
