There are 2 pics on the auction.
1st pic looks legit, but the 2nd is the 1/35 pic from the other auction.
The 2 pics have the stowage items in different places.
I still wouldn't buy from this guy, even if he was the only source in the universe to get this M113 from!!!!

But I know we can find these with out the help of Mr. Personality from Ebay...

I am on the lookout for the Green M113!
Anybody spots one, I am willing to trade for it!!!

Short review

Post by cmelt27 » Mon Nov 01, 2004 12:26 pm

In reading my post, please take into account the following: I am not an armor guy, so I don’t know what exactly I would say on the specs or the detail or what not, AND I am much more of a WWII guy than Modern.... but here are my thoughts:
1. I picked the desert M113 up for $10 at the Walmart in Panorama City, CA. The box was in poor condition, but I figured, what the hey, it’s only $10.
2. The figures are easily the worst figures put out by 21st Century. The articulation is not great, and the detail is lacking. It almost looks like my figs sat in the sun just long enough to ruin the plastic. The face sculpts are also disappointing.
3. I was not terribly impressed with the vehicle itself. For instance, the back ramp doesn’t close very well and the construction seems poor compared to the recent diecast Shermans and Tigers I have purchased (which I love). I almost feel like I got a cheap knock off of a good 21st C product....

As I said, I paid $10 for it, and I’m happy about that, but for any more, I’d probably not purchase it.

Hey, Tman, if you want to see an unboxed version of it (I threw the box away) you might want to stop by: I live on Veteran right off of Gayley. Perhaps, you could give it a better review. Send me an e-mail if you are interested:
[email protected]

I’d be interested what others have to say–maybe I just got a bum M113 (or maybe I was just in a bad mood yesterday :D )....

As I've have these everywhere in my area, the box flap is a legit pic, the 2nd photo ain't no 21st product!! Plus as previously stated, the figs suck!! Nothing like the detailed gunner in pic 2 of the auction. All the vehicles I've seen look pretty good to me, just the figs are lousy.

Here is an ebay auction with the M113 shown in the motorworks box. An honest depiction of the merchandise.

Any M-113's seen in the Northeast?? In Florida??

I'm not going to pay super premium to the eBay guys, I'll wait until WM catches up. I sell stuff on eBay all the time, but I don't rape anyone, I sell for a fair price stuff I have as extras or am tired of..... but I can't see me getting tired of looking at the M-113.

What is the Army using M113's for nowadays? Thought the Bradley was their main chariot.

Anybody find these yet in Peoria IL?

M-113's are currently used as command vehicles. They have a high modified boxes loaded with hi-tech radio and computer links. They are not used to transport troops in combat areas. That has been the job of the Bradleys for quite a while. Reserve units have some M-113's but the habit of burning after being hit by an RPG makes them disliked by combate troops. Something about melting aluminum not interacting well with stored ammo or live GI's.

Seeing the M113

Post by tmanthegreat » Fri Nov 05, 2004 8:49 pm

I had the chance to meet up and have a nice chat with fellow board member cmelt27 (who turns out is a neighbor of mine) and saw the he had M113 in person. As if there aren't enough reviews, here is mine:

The vehicle itself is rather nice, but is somewhat lacking when compared to the 21st Tiger, M-41, and even M2 Bradley. It does, however, have a good deal of functionability, which in my opinion is always a plus! All hatches open, and there is an interior. The interior consists of the rear space with two benches on either side for the troops. One could probably squeeze 6-8 armed BBI troops in the rear compartment. There are then the two crew positions. The driver has a seat and the commander/gunner has a stool built into the hatch. This hatch can rotate and has the .50 cal machine gun mounted on it. The engine compartment also opens to reveal the engine. This is deffinitely a plus, but the engine is a little undersized. The rear hatch comes down, but as cmelt27 said in another post, it deffinitely does not snap in place. The deck hatch opens as well.

The desert paint job is decent, and is reminiscant of Desert Storm vehicles. The stowage on the outside of the vehicle is a deffinite plus and is removable. The vehicle itself is rather small and is lightweight when compared to the diecast (or even plastic) Tiger. It didn't seem to have as solid of a feel as past armored vehicles.

As everyone else has said, the figures are the worst yet put out by 21st. The overall workmanship and jointing is very poor and makes the other modern figures look far superior. For those interested in getting this vehicle, use BBI figures instead!

Overall, if you are into armor, then this piece is necessary. Especially concerning functionability, the M113 still out does the BBI Modern armor. Its good to see that 21st is back into the business of producing new armor and they had better do a wonderful job on the Panzer IV next year!

Boomboom - did you say it came up as a Panther? Meaning there may be 1/18 Panthers at WM? Please advise.

Finally saw the 113 in person. There were two this morning in a Salt Lake area Walmart. Funny thing though, I had gone to 2 Walmarts north of the one I found them in and didnt see anything, I have since gone to 3 more Walmarts south of there and not seen any more. Either they are selling well or shipping is sporadic.
Both of the ones I saw scanned in at $39.99 and both were desert color.
