i've been doing some further calculations and it seems that the fuselage is 1/17 scale and the wings are 1/16.7 scale. So it's also slightly out of proportion.

It's funny, i always felt it looked too big but never bothered to measure it because i trusted bbi and because i just figured it looked big because it is 1/18 scale.

Somewhat annoying but i guess that's the way the ball bounces. On a positive note, it will look better beside my 1/16 T-34 than my other airplanes. :)

Well, I guess my standards are a little bit looser then others. The F-16 still looks right and when mine shows up will be most welcome next the the F-18. Then again I started modeling with Aurora's infamous Mig-19 that was actually a distorted Ta-183.

Loose standards are probably a good thing to have if you're going to collect 1/18 scale. Between oversized heads, undersized heads, too tall figures, oversized weapons, undersized weapons, overly large canopies, mis-proportioned parts etc etc it's very difficult to collect very many items that are precisely 1/18 scale. Being that these items are still regarded as toys means that they will inevitably have flaws in scaling. Plus, mistakes can happen, like the bbi F-16.

Besides that, many of us have strayed a bit from 1/18 scale in order to add some variety to our collections....dabbling in 1/16 or 1/20 (or both).

Better to regard yourself as collecting 1/18-ish scale.

Personally, whether its slightly too big or slightly too small, I'm not bothered by the scale inaccuracies of the BBI F-16. It is still a cool looking model!

I agree.

I cant wait for my F-16 to show up also.

Does any one know if the F-16’s AIM-120 AMRAAM
Will fit on the F-18’s pylons?
I would realy like to have something else other then what it has.

it's more of a sparrow than an amraam...looks a bit like both but sizewise and looks-wise closer to a sparrow (aim-7m), although a bit chubby. I mounted two leftover f-16 sparrow/amraam's on my f-18's nacelle pylons (even though i don't think the hornet carries the aim-7m version of the sparrow)...looks sharp but i had to glue them on and you will have trouble opening and closing the main gear doors, as it's a tight squeeze.

You can't really fit them on the wing pylons because you need the launch rail and the f-18 doesn't come with one.

my conclusion concerning the F 16 missiles : this is a mix of SPARROW and shrike antiradar ... but FUNKY !
I display my F 16 with only tanks because the bombs and all the missiles are horrible !

i realy want to contact HPH to buy some decent AMRAAM + JDAM + designator pod because my F 16 looks naked !

i tried to buy accessories and parts from HPH. They won't sell that way. Try again though, maybe they've changed their minds.

I spruced up my F-16 bombs a bit and they look pretty good now. A bit of work will pay off.

does Smoke II have the 3 colour scheme? It looks like it's just one shade of green and tan, not the two shades of green seen on (all) vietnam usaf airplanes.

3 colors

as long as i can judge the colors are accurate ! (though i've never seen such a camo in real life ... wait a minute ! Yes i've seen one ! here in "LE BOURGET" (place of the bi annual exhibitions PARIS AIRSHOW) there is an incredible museum and the USAF E gave them an F 105 in SEA camo !!!!!! but the bottom is white .
On the smoke II model it's a wrap around camo. The 2 shades of green are mat not brillant and are well seen in naked eyes but not on pictures.
Considering the skyraider ... yes i hope !

Actually- the fuselage of the 104 produces 60% of the lift in cruise...
The Smoke II was shot down in aug-66, propably by aaa.Pilot MIA
The 104`s was deployed originally to SeA to fight Mig21.but when they started patroling the skies, the migs almost never showed up.So it was a very sucessful deployment. These Squadrons were withdrawn for a short period, only to be reemployed in the ground attack role, also with sucess-despite its short range. This was partially remedied by installing air to air refuelling gear.
Anyhow-have any of You built a twoseater yet?pls post pics.
I have buildt a RNoAF F104G by the good help from KAGNEW who made me the Canopy.but i dont know how to post pics..BRGDS DANIEL

TIGER1:

Thanks for the info on "Smoke II"

Here's more info,

"F-104C
57-0925
(435th TFS, 8th TFW, Udorn Air Base, Thailand)
1 August 1966, at the same time that Capt Kwortnik’s flight was encountering intense ground fire, another flight of Starfighters was escorting F-105 Wild Weasels over Thai Nguyen when one of them suddenly turned into a ball of flame. This was assumed to be another SA-2 SAM hit, and the pilot Lt. Colonel Arthur Thomas Finney was posted as missing, later KIA (his remains were returned to the USA 14 August 1985). This aircraft was nicknamed “Smoke II” on its nose."
