I want one and will pay F-14 money for it too. But I see some of the detail as just more pieces for me to break!

Pretty sure the A-10 is going cost at least double what the F-14 currently costs. I hope I'm wrong but just looking at the detail they have shown so far I doubt it. My guess is kit form starts at $300 plus and a fully painted model will be at least $500, but probably closer to $700 plus. Skyworks makes beautifully detailed planes but they come with a price. Just look what they charge for WWII warbirds, that should give you a better perspective of what this plane will cost.

1:18 SKY-WORKS TOYS Kittyhawk Mk.IV Edward Ross Italy 1944 SW-P40E010

A meager $799.99. I guess pricing it at $800.00 was too much.

Unfortunately it will probably cost more than most of the members here can afford or want to pay, no matter how awesome it looks.

I can see the storm coming when the price of this thing is announced.

Corey
Yeah Corey I see that too. While I have wanted an A-10 for a long time I see this priced way out of my range. Guess Ill just get a 1/32 model and build it myself. Ill prolly enjoy it more that way.

I don't comment on these kinds of threads much, but I give my mostly worthless two cents:
I got into this here hobby when 1/18 was plentiful and cheap, and back then I didn't have nearly the disposable income I have now. But everything is relative. My other collecting hobby/money pit is firearms. When the price of a plastic airplane approaches, meets, or exceeds the price of many firearms, the plastic airplane loses out.
Skyworks makes fine models, no doubt, and god bless the little chinese kids working for JSI. But for that kind of coin, I'm buying iron, not plastic.

But then I'm kinda crazy like that.

What? Isn't it looking like you've always said 1/18 scale aircraft should look? The detail and features are looking pretty damn good.

I hope it's not going to be a super high price tag with all the interest out there in an A-10. I hope Skyworks finds a way to offer this plane at a price many are willing to pay.

The pics on Skyworks website are really nice. I get giddy just thinking about it. If they are making a museum piece I suspect the price will be up there. I will see what I can do if and when it comes out.

So far it looks very good. But these are just a couple of pieces.

I think this will be an expensive model, and out of reach for many collectors.

Hopefully, I am wrong.

I think Skyworks is doing the leg work for now. I'm waiting to hear from AllGo on the progress of the program overall. I think that it's clear that Jack is still working on improving the prototype which would be 7-8 years old now... Hopefully I will learn more as the progress on the modifications continue. Sorry I don't have any details yet.

A stupid question: What exactly is the relationship between the work on the prototype and the product that gets produced for sale? Does it become a "positive" that "negative" molds are made from? And if this is true, may we assume that because Skyworks is doing this work that the final product will definitely be resin?

Yes, the aircraft ultimately surves as a "positive" to create "negative" molds. Resin is accessible, easier to work with, can mostly be done using hand labor and is very expensive. = great for 50-100 planes

Plastic is cheaper, not easily accessible because it requires lots of machinery, requires a factory production line. = great, as long as you can move 6000 planes.

It's not been made clear to me exactly what the arrangements and understanding between AllGo and skyworks is on this a10 project. I think allgo wanted to seriously consider the a10 but felt it was out of date in terms of details and some minor accuracy issues. They obviously were impressed with Jacks skills and have agreed to provide the a10 to jack for reworking. I dunno what happens from here. I expect jack would make some resin planes for us to buy like he always does. Allgo gets an updated prototype? I dunno... Maybe together they have a different plan for production. That's the x factor in my opinion. If I knew exactly the plan that would be super for all of us but I don't. On this one I'm only being told things a few weeks before it becomes public. I'll keep digging, see what comes up. :)

I think if this plane becomes a uber-expensive resin limited production product ALLGO can just consider themselves done in the world of scale collectables and I hope they understand that. I do understand the expence of these things but after there first debacle to release a highly wanted plane where the price limits it to a select few would destry any trust or good will they had or would even again have. I want this plane but it cant be any more than the F-14 and I think that goes for most people around here.
