does Fedex ground deliver on saturdays? anyone no?
I don't think they deliver on the weekends. One thing I did was to put a small piece of styrofoam in the tail wheel well to keep the tail wheel out.
I guess the tail wheel issue is inherant on this model. Also you really have to work on the cockpit fit,it was a bear. But after all the little things it is still an awesome model. Enjoy :D

I am torn. I love the detail of the cockpit. It surpasses any other 1/18 model I have thus far. But, the fact that having to fit it in there just right or your wings look off just irks me. I messed around with it for and hour last night and I can't get my wings to set flush with the fuselage. BLHAAAAAAAA. Still, I love it and when they do come out in green I will buy one.

You really have to press it in to make it fit. Make sure the front of the cockpit fits behind the fuselage spar (lkg fwd) and the aft part of the cockpit in front of the bulkhead spar (lkg aft) :? It took me awhile also but some FIRM pressure got the job done. Good Luck
I think 21C needs to take lessons from BBI's Manufacturer on detail and crisp paint jobs instead of talking about it. I have both 21c's and BBI's Mustangs and F4U's and you definatley can tell the difference. Too bad BBI isn't doing the Avenger.

The Zero tail wheel snaps in position much like the 21st Corsair. Firm forward pressure on the upper part will snap the wheel into position. Trust me, it will go in.....

THE PAST MEETS THE PRESENT..............

My brother is in the USAF like I am, and back in the early 90's, he was stationed at Hickam. His building was one of the ones attacked by Japanese planes, and if you ever go to Hickam, those bullet holes are still in them in rememberance. Anyways, his unit let him metal detect the grass around his building and he found some bullets. He gave me 2. Now, we thought that they were Japanese .50 caliber, but looking up the info on te M6A2, it had 20mms instead. Only the later models carried the 13.5mm MGs. So, these must be US .50s that fell through the air or were fired flat trajectories at the Japanese planes. Here is a picture of them with the bbi Zero. A bit of real history matched with a modern momento of that December morning......

That's what I thought, I put enough pressure on it, short of breaking it off and it wouldnt go. Hence the foam. you can't see it and the tail wheel is still in one piece. Thanks for the info though.

Yes, the cockpit is a bear to get in. Took me awhile, also. There are some slots in the forward and aft fuselage spars that correspond to little pips on the cockpit assembly. Once you get those to pop in place (this is where firm pressure comes in), you'll have the clearance for the wing. Make sure you check that the gun muzzles go through the holes in front first, and watch closely that the gun breeches fit into the front cockpit correctly; they are easy to get in crooked.

With the tailwheel, instead of pulling on the wheel itself, I slipped a screwdriver up into the fuselage and levered the BASE of the tailwheel assembly down or out so that it clicked into place. Worked very nicely.

Hope this helps someone; the earlier posts did help me. (Thanks!)

FedEx does have saturday Home Deliveries. I just received my F-104 G and Zero. So much anticipation and there they sit, on the living room floor unopened.

Just recieved the replacement for the missing right stabilizer on my Zero from BCA, (see previous post about my two left stabilizers) and I didn't have to pay a thing. That is excellent customer service :D So, if any of you have similar problems, you may want to give BCA a call.

On a side note regarding the extraordinary detail of the Zero cockpit: After playing my old Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 Pacific Theater game, which features accurate renditioning of the A6M2's cockpit, I noticed that BBI went the extra length to make all the instruments more or less identifiable! They're not just generic dials. You can easily ID the attitude indicator, compass, altimiter, and even the RPM gague with its red portion indicating the highest engine speeds. Nice Work!

The balance horn and kanji on the stabilizer are noted and will be
fixed.
Overall a great bird though."

Nice to have a direct conduit to the toy makers, eh? :)

Well, since I was let in on the trick, I got my cockpit to set correctly and my wings lay right. I am glad for all the detail and the removable cockpit too. Eventhough, I will never take it out again, it was very cool to look at for a while. Well done bbi.

I was thinking after assembly of my Zero. That radial engine was only about 6 feet from the Pilot and the exhausts vent behind the cowl. Add in the noise from the firing machine guns mounted in the cockpit and throw
in a Hellcat on your tail, and you had one intence environment.

Has anyone figured out a way to turn the aileron counter weights around without breaking them?

Yeah I did. If you pull on the horn part of the weight and pull it slowly towards the front of the aileron, the tab portion inside will start to pop out. Sorta like pulling on a lever. Don't try to pull it straight out. Once you get it out, just turn it around. You may have to use a spot of glue in the hole to keep it from popping out again. Check out these pictures:

This one is of the counterweight pulled out:

And another showing it in the correct position:

Hope this helps!

if you work a needle all the way around horn before you pull on it, it comes out a lot easier

Did anybody (P-51?) happen to get any pics of the BBI green Zero at ihobby?
The 21st Century 1:32 green Zero looks awesome, but I need a 1:18 scale.

Here is a picture of the green BBI Zero shown at the iHobby Expo, that I found at Merit International's website.

That looks good, but it should have the different engine cowling with exhaust pipes, shorter wings and protruding wing cannon of the A6M5! Still, its good to see that there will be a different looking Zero avaliable. Between the two BBI variants and the upcoming 21c version, we are going to have our pick of Japanese fighters! I'm still very content with my white BCA Zero.

I'm curious, how did the Japanese show kill markings on their ac. Did they do that?

Yep. They were shown on the left side of the fuselage. A white star with an arrow through it for fighters and a front view of a bomber for, eh, a bomber. Here is a really good photo I scanned out of one of my books showing how they were displayed:

This Zero is the paint scheme used for the Matchbox Collectible 1:72 Zero....
