Eagle i-stand for F/A-18?

It will support the weight (they are strong) but I have not tried to balance one yet. You would need a shorter stand (they vary) because a shorter stand means more platform (ie each stand is the same amount of metal - a taller stand just has the bend later leaving less surface area for the AC to rest on). Two might work also...I may give it a try later and report back.

As far as how much weight these stands can carry, I have two Diecast Metal Aircraft; Franklin Mint B-17 and Armour B-24 now on these stands. They both are not LIGHT WEIGHTS by any means. You just have to adjust the balance point. I have had them on these stands for more than two months now, and I see no evidence of failure to hold these beasts.

Awesome deal. Did you bake the acrylic in an oven to get that shape? I'm going to redo the bottom of my F-16 because I'm adding the central panel and scratchbuilding a centre-line fuel tank so I may have to build a stand that holds the plane from either towards the stern or the engine itsself. Is that univeral? for most aircraft like a WWII or whatnot? Anyway, that kicks ass!

Thanks Mig29k. I made these, so I would imagine I could make something for your project. I would have to see what I would have to work around. Wouldn't baking blister the acrylic? I held the piece over the range to heat it up. Not the most efficent method.

I really like the look of the acrylic over the metal stands. If you ever consider making them for others, let me know how much you would be asking for them. I might just buy a couple!

Hey Nathan the Pizza Dude... I just may have to take you up on that. I'll wait till the Bottom modifications and the Fuel Tank are finally built on it so we can see what to do about it. I bent a 1.5' x 2.5' piece of 1/8th" acyrlic for a wind tunnel cover and I think there was some minor blistering with it. A friend of mine also made some acrylic impact protection covers for red-dot/optical sights mounted on the teams airsoft MP-5s and M4s to avoid getting smashed by plastic pellets traveling at 380 FPS+ and he managed to avoid blistering. I wonder if acrylic will bend in boiling water? Ever tried it? Anyhow thanks for the reply. I'll post up pics when the work on the plane is finished. By the way, great pics of your airwing taking off!

Excellent idea and beautiful finished product!! If I did not suspend my 1/18 from the den ceiling I would hop on these PDQ if not sooner. Have you considered marketing these through a large vendor or other commercial pipeline? These would probably sell VERY well!
