The Eagle iStand for 1:18 Aircraft Display In Flight

Hello,

Have anyone here had bought and used this stand to display 21C 1:18 aircraft? I am thinking of getting a few of them but just want to know any of you had used it and what is your comment. Thanks.

I have purchased them and they are great to use. The seller in Canada is very personable and ships items fast. I have a Corsair, Mustang and F-86 on them an they stay put very well. I tried to balance the F-104 on one, it was steady, but pushing the envelop on that size aircraft. I am not sorry at all that I purchased some. I am looking at getting a few more in the near future as new items come out.

Adjustable non slip, non skid rubber blocks are used to hold the model in place atop a chrome steel base that gives a sturdy, reliable footing. The model is held firm but posable upon these blocks and will not cause marks or damage to your model. The display stand arm can also be adjusted higher or lower as required and we can customise the height of the stand to individual needs... from 3.5 inches to 8.5 inches high.

These stands are great for 1/32 to 1/18 scale aircraft. I have a collection of 35 planes and I'm using the eagle istands for some of my collection and the planes look fantastic on them. You can even order them in custom heights. They have clever little rubber widgets that are adjustable and hold the models securely in place. I've ordered them on ebay at around $15.99 but for larger orders it best to contact the sales guy at the eagle istand website because large wholesale orders are cheaper. www.eagle-istand.com

A hearty round of applause to Paul Wong of Singapore, who first called the Eagle IStands to our attention, and to Tom Hamlyn of Montreal, who makes these shiny steel beauties. I had posted an earlier thread here asking if any knew of a 1:18 display stand maker, but got zilch back. Paul Wong saved the day! I contacted Tom Hamlyn at Eagle iStands, and ordered a bunch of his stands. Wow! Do they ever fill the bill! They can support any sized aircraft from 1:48 to 1:18. They are immensely-strong, yet their armature or pylon can be bent to adjust their height (plus, Tom will make them in various heights to your specifications). Their little rubber cushions hold the models very securely, and the minimalist appearance
of these shiny metal stands doesn't distract the eye from your model. Combine these stands with the white plastic snap-together Plano Dura-Shelf shelves I mentioned in an earlier post, and you can greatly increase your available display space. Check out Eagle iStands!

OK, got my stands today. I am not as thrilled as others.
First let me say the customer service was great - friendly and fast communication.

However, I ordered 8 stands and it cost $130 shipped. Basically the cost of 3 new planes. Fine, I knew this before I paid. I also knew that they were essentially a twisted metal rod with small rubber grips but when you get them out you realize this would be a $3 item in any store, if such a thing was made.

My main beef is that I asked for variety among the 8 stands and the variation in height between the tallest and shortest is max 2 inches, although it looks like more like one. Further, the perches are relatively "flat" allowing for no difference in ascent or decent whether you put the AC one way or the other. They are NOT adjustable. So basically there is no way to get a steep dive with your Stuka or a climb with your Corsair - all the AC fly straight while on the perch. Maybe you had to request the angle you wanted but it was not made clear. I figured with 8 stands I would have at least some with the perch at an angle so I could fly my planes differently - essentially the point of buying 8 and requesting varying heights.

All told I spent $130 on 8 pieces of practically identical metal rod twisted in the same fashion. Not worth the money imo, should have bought 1 or 2 but not so many for the price. Oh well, live and learn.

Maybe you got a bad batch? I am very happy with the ones I bought from Tom. The ones I have came with the upper prongs already at an angle so I have one plane in a dive and another ascending. Have you tried adjusting the widgets - I found that repositioning those could help me achieve the pose I wanted.

I will continue to mess with them. Another beef I have is that the center of gravity for many of my planes is right where the drop tank goes - for example the 190 and 109. I am still working on getting those to fly. Even my Stuka I am having issues with the bomb being in the way but I plan on going to the site to see how they managed that - EDIT - I see they removed the bomb in the photo gallery - I should have noticed that. I think the perches could be more accomodating in terms of length, width, etc..so far only my P-40 and Corsair like the stands.

My Spit is hanging from fishing wire so no need for a stand although it might get one anyway so I feel better about buying 8..

EDIt - here's more I've noticed: The entirety of each stand is the same size, so if you want a taller stand you lose length on the perch. A shorter stand and the perch is bigger. Essentially the "bend" is just in a different place depending on the height you request, so keep in mind which plane(s) you are buying for when you request the height of the stand.

Nice work on the Helicopter displays Digger! Wow I hadn't thought of that display option ; )

Digger adjustable Inclines are easy to achieve with your stands. Simply apply some pressure at the pivot point of the eagle istand to adjust the pivot angle so that your planes can be displayed at an incline for Take Off and Landing poses.

I've attached some examples below and you can see more at the www.eagle-istand.com galleries

The display stand pivot heights can be supplied in heights from 3 inches to 8 inches which gives variety in display options if you have a large collection.
Digger's stands were supplied in 5,6,7 inche heights... the 3,5,7 inches versions are recommended for maximum posing height variety.

Digger's order of 8 display stands also included $18 for xpresspost 3 day trackable shipping which was the shipping option he chose... It is possible to send the display stands cheaply via expedited post which takes about a week between Canada and the USA.

The price of the istands remains pretty reasonable at $13.99 considering they are not mass produced(at present) and for orders of 15 or more the price drops to $11.99 and even lower for orders over 50.

Thanks for your reply "eagle". With what you mention and the photos you show, you really have me thinking these stands over. I know I have room issues and I think your stands would do wonders. Anything to reduce the footprint of a non-hanging aircraft helps. Thanks for nothing, hehehehe......

It depends how heavy your models are... the stands are very strong so unless your models weigh more than 10 pounds then the stands will handle them no problem.

Eagle Island:
I have two heavyweights on your stands now. One is the Armour B-17 Diecast and B-24. Once I established the balance point, they have been in place for more than two months with no noticable failures in your stands.
The planes, even though they are about 1:42 scale, are hefty in weight.
I just love your stands.
