Poll: what helicopter would you like to see next in 1/18?

Post by aferguson » Sat Dec 11, 2004 6:38 pm

I don't know what the chances of seeing any new helicopters in 1/18 after the Kiowa but just in case BBI or 21c is curious as to what we'd like here's a poll of what i think are 7 great choices:

My first choice would be a Hind, there are so many possibilities there. A Chinook would have to be the second choice since there are already so many US Helicopters.

a Russian Ka-50 "Black Shark" ever since I saw this on the Discovery Wings channel it has been inprinted on my brain and to see the pilots flying the bad boy just sent chills down my spine. I couldn't imagine being a soldier and seeing this thing bear down on me almost as scary as a hind the way it comes over the ridge and bears donw on its prey.

Is the CH 53 the Jolly Green ? If so I would lean to that barely over a MI 24.

I voted for the Hind. We have a good selection of US Helicopters from both 21c and BBI, so how about something the Eastern Bloc uses? Besides, it looks so cool with those large wings and staggered bubble canopies. Its also a trasnsport! If I could vote twice, a Chinook would be my next choice - in USMC colors - so it could accompany the 21c AH-1W with a load of BBI marine figures!

This is surprising me. I thought the Chinook would be the hands down favourite when i set up this poll. Glad to see the Hind (my choice) at number one.

I also had a Sea Knight on the poll but it must have gotten chopped off...maybe six choices is the maximum.

Go Hind!

Yes the CH-53 is the Jolly Green, also known as the Stallion.

Well a Chinook is a ridiculous choice as it would be OVER 5 FEET long, so I don't think anyone wants to vote for something not gonna happen. Frankly I think I hind would be cool, but would be a disaster on the shelves. If a BlackHawk or Apache is collecting dust than a Russian helo would not exactly be tearing up the registers. I think the best 5 helicopters have been made, and the Cobra was the best by far. If 21C wants to do another helo, they could redo the Apache or the Blackhawk which could use a lot of work. Otherwise don't waste the time/effort.

Chinook was never used by the USMC. Your thinking of the Ch-46E Sea Knight. And yeah, Ill take one of those. As I recall, there was a rather toyish looking one done for GI Joe several years ago, so I dont think its totally out of the question.

A Hind is a must of course, but I'd like to see an SH-60 Seahawk someday.

The chinook's fuselage is only 50 something feet long. So it would just be a bit longer than the Apache. With the rotors it would be over 5 feet but you could always just leave them off or remove them for display.

I don't think a chinook is that far fetched and i think the hind would sell better than the apache.

that blue thunder chopper is interesting. Since blue thunder was basically just a french gazelle with a customized nose section it could be turned into a french army/british army gazelle. It would be pretty tough to make a proper nose for it though. The gazelle has a long lobe shaped nose with a lot of glass in it...

I'd LOVE to see a CH-53 Jolly Green Giant... thos beauties are very awesome to see flying. The used to be stationed near here at MCAS Tustin before it closed... so I used to see them on a daily/hour basis along with Chinooks.

And for those of you who have no idea what a CH-53 Jolly Green Giant or CH-46 Chinook is..

P, i hate to correct you (actually i love it :P) but that CH-46 you pictured is the Sea Knight not the Chinook. The Chinook looks very similar but is about 10% or so bigger and is a stronger bird. Here's a CH-47 Chinook:

He he. Corrections are always welcome :-) Thanks for the bit of info. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable on Helis as I am Planes.

Hind is the definitive choice but any of the choppers would be cool.

I think a Jolly Green Giant would be cool, and a Chinook as my second choice. Iwould by a Hind, that would be cool to! They all fit in the Vietnam/modern era.

Viewing the choices listed in the poll, my vote goes to the 53 (Jolly Green). The Sea Stallion would be a must have, although it is a big bird as well!!! Helos not on the list that I would like to see in 1/18 scale would be the CH-46 (Sea Knight), But my absolute favorite would be an HH-60J.
I know, good luck, right? So, I'll settle for an SH-60. Close enough!

Post by mwanz » Sun Dec 12, 2004 3:33 pm

I was actually thinking a V22 Osprey VTOL (more plane than heli but still in this domain) would be cool.

I voted chinook, but a comanche would be neat. Is the real comanche project still in the works? Thought somebody said they were going to scrap it.
