Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 - Schwimmwagen - Updated photos
You mean this?
There about 15 pages of pictures in Panzerwrecks 6 of at least five different captured Calliope 251's confirmed by the authors. The photos are super detailed showing their construction and being towed into position. Other than the Calliope rocket pods, the other interesting feature is that they used captured Pak 40 chassis's with the barrels cut down and tires removed for the elevation mechanics.
If you haven't checked out the Panzerwrecks book series yet I highly recommend it. As a confessed armor junkie, I initially bought one for more panzer photos, but after getting the first one (Normandy I) and seeing the number of camo variants and high detail photos of all those little parts that were hard to model I was hooked. They are now up to #14 I believe.

Hey Grunt
Did the Schwimmwagen ever get done - I may have missed it?

Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 - Schwimmwagen - Updated photos
I have some news on the Schwimm front. Shapeways was having a really hard time printing it due to the challenging shape and level of detail. The good news is that I was messing with it for another reason and ended up resolving the problems. The price also dropped considerably when I removed the top and made some other changes. For reference, it went down from around $225 to $149.
I need some feedback. It's ready to post for sale as is, but I wanted to take one more shot at tweaking it for those that were interested in it to make it as useful as I can.
- What price would you be willing to pay? As it stands it would be ~$149 at Shapeways. If you wait for one of their sales (rare but sizable with around 20%-25% off) the price would drop to about $120-$130. You may have to wait for sometime later this year most likely.
- What accessories would you be willing to live without (open canopy, folded canopy, rear seats, shovel, oar, wooden floor mud guards/slats) if any?
Every item I remove drops the cost quite a bit and some of the details would not be visible if you had figures or stowage in the car. Eg: floor slats, rear seats.
Also, would there be interest in a version that was potentially water capable? Right now there are holes in the tub design like the real one but the interior works that made it float while open in real life are missing. I could close the holes up (which are behind the tires anyway) and it would be at least as seaworthy as a beer can. The added material would bump the cost a bit, maybe $10. You may have to use small weights to make it work well and sit at the right level in the water. It also will not have been balanced front to rear because there is no engine, etc. Again weights might be able to address that.

Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 - Schwimmwagen - Updated photos
Great news Grunt! I don't think I'd need it to be "water capable" and I wouldn't need a canopy (open).
The rest of the details should remain, modelers can add details but collectors might not be able to.
This is a great looking piece Grunt, a 1:18 Schwimmwagen has a spot in my collection.

Just got my Nebel from BG and it's a phenomenal print... The Schwimm will be incredible as well. Your 3D work is insane man, just amazing stuff.

Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 - Schwimmwagen - Updated photos
Thank you. I've received the most recent version from Shapeways and it turned out really well. I'm working on fixing some long standing weak spots and updating some details. Once that is done I'll upload it to SW and you can go for it.
To do list breakdown:
- Improve the propeller attachment mechanism for strength, easier raise/lower
- Make the propeller a distinct part so it can rotate if desired (fun)
- Adjust the seats to save material cost and improve mounting
- Add engine vent holes (to cover with screen) and maybe include vents like the Kettenkrad
- Strengthen wheel to rod mount points
- Add the folded canopy frame
- Improve muffler detail
- Add various missing details to the tub
I'll post a few pictures later so you guys can provide any feedback or requests.

Re: Battleground Toys 1:18 - Schwimmwagen - Updated photos
There was a "home print" of a Panzer I as well here. It has not yet made it's way to Shapeways so it's rougher than the usual 3D print.

I've been able to do some work on the Schwimmer, not enough to be done but close. Will advise.

Hey Eddy, I have not found time to make the changes Shapeways requires yet. However, they are available directly from me. The kit comes with the white parts shown on this page:
https://www.battlegroundtoys.com/schwimmwagen-type-166
It's $165 plus shipping and paypal fees. PM if interested.

Wow that is cool, nice paint scheme Zelda!
Is that the Schwimmwagen Type 128? Something looks a little different.

I guess I've answered my own question....

Thanks for the compliment Jon!! Yes I love the work Ken does and this and the Panzer 38t are yet more superb examples. I now have models from some of the very best modelers out there and are really happy with all of them.

Hi, I've tried contacting through Shapeways and through the battleground toys site; are these Schwimmwagens still available? I'd love order one, if possible. There doesn't seem to be a "buy now" link on the battleground Schwimm page?
