No8 Models - Any demand for modern day jet ordinance/weapons
Hey fellas.
Just putting some feelers out there. How many guys would be interested in some missiles and bombs for the modern 1/18th range. I have no clue as to how they are attached on the models so will need some dimensions regarding attachment points.
Also, whats weapons would you guys want? Could do a sprue with x amount of missiles and x amount of bombs?

I think this would be awesome. May also need the proper racks made for some of the ordinance to mount accurately.
Air-to-ground ordinance would be good.
AGM-65 Mavericks and GBUs off the top of my mind.

I would go for any ordinance that is not currently available for the F-14, F-18 or F-16 including the ordinance racks.

Wolf, that would be great. I'll PM you my email. I haven't gathered any information at all. A fellow board member just mentioned that there might be a need for these things for you modern guys.wolf8564 wrote:I have a collection of Ordanace sacled to 1/18(unlike the F-16sMissle and Bombs)

Re: No8 Models - Any demand for modern day jet ordinance/wea
I'm hoping this works out. I would love to load up my modern day jet with different ordinance sets. Here are some examples of different weapon loadouts.

i ALSO FOUND A PLACE THAT HAS SOME THAT WERE FOR A BIGGER SCALEbUT ACCORDING TO THERE MEASURMENTS THEY COULD BE USED. YOU WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE MEASUREMENTS OF THE BOMBS WOULD bE AND SEE HOW CLOSE THEY COME TO 1/18 SCALE. i HAVE NEVER SEEN THESE IN PERSON SO BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING!

Re: No8 Models - Any demand for modern day jet ordinance/wea
But, they should make some more jets first than 3 modern US jets in 1:18 :/
Re: No8 Models - Any demand for modern day jet ordinance/wea
Wolf8564, the weapons sold at darehobby.com seem to be more 1/10 when I compare the size of Sidewinder missiles, about 10", mine (on the BBI Hornet) are about 6".
I'm still looking for a pair of 1:18 Hellfire with the launching rails as on the BBI Apache (would be for a Kiowa custom).

A helicopter does not want to fly, it just vibrates so much that the ground rejects it
Re: No8 Models - Any demand for modern day jet ordinance/wea

Re: No8 Models - Any demand for modern day jet ordinance/wea
Thanks Wolf for sending the drawings.
Hey, so guys. One important question, how are these various weapons attached to the existing jets?
I have the Bbi Pavehawk, and the external tanks are attached with two round pins (one larger in diameter than the other) with a "wall" bridging the pins.
Is this the same connection as the Bbi jets?
What about the Tomcat?

Re: No8 Models - Any demand for modern day jet ordinance/wea
I attach all my ordnance with small brass wire, works well for 1/48th scale. I plan on doing the same thing with my 1/18th Tomcats. I will just use a little heavier gauge wire for the larger scale.
I start the process by drilling holes , in the weapons, where the attachment points are found. Again, reference material is key for this part. I drill the weapons prior to painting. The wires make good hand - holds while painting the weapons.
Once drilled, I insert a length of wire into the holes on the weapon. With the weapons having all their pins installed, I can now finish the painting, decalling and, weathering of the weapons.
Now, comes the time to attach the weapons to the bomb racks, pylons, etc. I hold the weapon in place and note where the wires contact the rack, pylon, etc. Then, I drill the 1st mounting hole. Placing the corresponding wire of the weapon into the 1st mounting hole. I then "pivot" the weapon slightly so as to scratch the paint and mark the second hole and then drill the 2nd hole.
Alignment of these holes is critical. If they are not spaced properly, the wires mounted in the weapon will not fit into both holes. Also, if they are not aligned with the centerline of the weapon, it will hang improperly on the model. It takes some practice and a little "eyeballing" to get the alignments to work.
With the holes drilled, I place a small drop of super glue on the ends of the mounting wires and slip the weapon into place. It is actually the wires that hold the weapon. The super glue only adds stability to the fit.
This allows you to change the weapons loadout from time to time and gives the aircraft a "new" look. Hope this helps, I am not at this stage in my build or I would have included pics to go with this article.

Re: No8 Models - Any demand for modern day jet ordinance/wea
Agreed, however I do not have a F-18 so, I do not know what the pylons look like. As for the F-16, I have one of them (8FW, Wolfpack version) and the TER's are not engineered very well. They would need some serious rework to look good IMO. Those of you who have one know what I am talking about. They have large "sockets" on them which is where the bombs fit into. At this scale, 1/18th, it just dosen't look good.
That's another project for another day. I have to finish my Tomcats first. Would love to see all the different weapons someday though.

You can see what the pylons look like at my photobucket site.

Wolf8564,
Did you scratchbuild all those different munitions ?? They all look really good. You've done quite a bit of extra detailing / scratchbuilding to that F-16 as well, well done. I would like to have some of that stuff for my F-16.

Ok, so i've found some weapon sets I can scale off. Without going into single specific ordinances at this stage, what do you guys what to see most of (to start off).
