You guys are probably running up the price with your excited responses.
The feelers are probably out to see how much people are willing to pay.

Unlike your resin builds, the price per unit will most likely hing on the number produced. Concerns like size and detail play a part but not like production numbers. The less they make the more we will pay. Anyone have any idea as to how many Dauntless were built? The good thing the butcher bird has going for it (and may be why they chose it) is that it is very popular and can have many paint options so hopefully the fact that they chose it is an indicator that this run will be much larger.pickelhaube wrote:I am hoping that the price point will be cheaper.
The Dauntless is a much larger plane than the 190.
I am hoping / wishing for around $ 100-$125.
Of course $39.94 would be better but we will NEVER SEE THOSE PRICES AGAIN.

FW 190A would be a great move, both from a collector and financial standpoint.
And to have Merit do this, after there fantastic Dauntless, gives me hope that this will be a great 1/18 release.
So many pilots and schemes that could be done, much like the Me 109, or the Mustang.
The 21C Dora was a bit of a disappointment, but this A model, if done well, would be bringing the 1/18 to a new level. And keeping the scale going.

190A was a childhood favorite in the old 1/48 Monogram days so I am considering this in 1/18. My decision will be on how the scheme looks.

The old Monogram 190 was the first plastic kit I ever built.
I put it together fixed the decals and hung it from my ceiling.
No paint !!

Hi Pickel^^^. Good story. You must have loved building it. The Monogram 190 inspired me to no end... I fitted mine with every extra they put in that kit, underwing guns, the bomb, the tropical filters. I also mixed and matched the coolest decals, oh, the good old days.
The 1/18 version will hopefully capture some of that Youth Magic. I will take it from wherever it comes.

Remember the old Gullows balsa FW-190? Built one so many years ago....probably before alot of you were born. Largest scale model I could find and I didn't care that it was tissue-covered. Hung from the ceiling of my room all through puberty and was lost in storage after I joined the Army after graduating high school....never to be seen again. I built many plastic models in all kinds of scales from 1/72nd to 1/24th...all the FW-190A's...couldn't stand the long nosed "D" much. When 21C came out with it though, I snatched up one of every version I could find....still have several too. Could you tell by my avatar that I kinda like the "Butcher Bird"?

Would have preferred a P-40E Warhawk but this is a good choice.
Speculate on the scheme?
Hermann Graf had the most colorful if not clown like and kinda gawdy, but cool.

I would agree with the Graf scheme being a strong candidate, or perhaps one of the JG54 Green and brown camo aircraft.
Very happy the A is being done anyway.

The Dauntless is a very nicely detailed model indeed, but some people mentioned that it was a pre-assembled and pre-painted Trumpeter kit (or based on an original Trumpeter kit at any rate). This upcoming release, provided it comes to fruition, will be an all-new prototype/mold designed and produced from scratch, which most likely means the final MSRP will be set accordingly. Hopefully, the price tag will be under or around $180, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it ends up retailing for $200 or more, depending on the initial production run and how many repaints they expect to release going forward.

...and here we go again
I think its well understood that this will be an expensive aircraft, all things considered. No more $40 FW-190s. Until more info comes from Merit, its not much use speculating on the costs.
The paint scheme will be something to speculate about, though. Merit will likely go with something pretty standard or with a bit of historical significance, just like they did with the Dauntlesses. With those we got aircraft identified with key battles and which looked like a run-of-the-mill aircraft from their period. I'm not too wild about that Hermann Graf shceme showed above and would desire something more subdued. After all the 21c Hermann Graf Bf-109s sold very poorly at retail

Ha, ha. 1/18 scale FW-190s for $40. You so funny!tmanthegreat wrote:...and here we go again

Seriously, I don't think anyone here has suggested these should retail for $40 or anything resembling that price point. But you already know that.
Re: merit to release 1/18 Gr.FW-190 A-5 in 2013
The problem I will have is not necessarily deciding what paint scheme(s)...but HOW MANY DO I BUY! FW190 is probably one of the best looking WWII planes imoAra wrote:190A was a childhood favorite in the old 1/48 Monogram days so I am considering this in 1/18. Agree with Tman. Lets not start speculating on the cost, at least until we get more info, and maybe pics. Should be cheaper than the Dauntless though.
So many schemes, and pilots that could be done. Almost endless. Think they should go with some famous aces, obviously.
About the only FW scheme that I don't really like is the desert camo.
Do like them with the theater fuselage band, and some colour on the tail the best, but even a plain jane camo mottling camo would be fine.

I agree Snake and Tman, no point in speculation, just hope this is for real at this point
I have no doubt that they will chose some version of the classic Black Eagle design like this one: (though this is an A8)
Others I like:
We wont see this one but how cool of a custom would it be!

What was it with Graf and his gawdy planes?
On the other hand, one of the the most sought after FW-190's in 1:72 is the Dragon Herman Graf.
I like the black nosed one in Jnew's third pick myself, but also like the last 1:32 FW-190 scheme 21stC put out which was the subdued "Black 2"
I expect they'll knock our socks off with whatever they come up with I'm hoping.

It is interesting. Tony of our company also said the Monogram FW-190A was also his first model kit.pickelhaube wrote:Ara wrote:190A was a childhood favorite in the old 1/48 Monogram days so I am considering this in 1/18. My decision will be on how the scheme looks.

I'm MOST DEFINITELY IN on this one. I've waited and waited for a reasonably priced A model for years. WOOHOO!!
Do this scheme Merit and you'll make some very happy customers

I'm definitely in on this one...Like many of you, the "A" version has always been my favorite & to me, one of the sharpest looking of all WWII fighter aircraft!
Price will be what it will be - Paint scheme will be what it will be...Regardless, it's the only way I'll get to ever own an "A" version in 1/18th scale...

I like the looks of that Wurmheller FW-190A. Its both standard-looking, but flashy in its own right. Something along those lines would be the way for Merit to go, I think.
On the issue of price, I think we can all rest assured that the Merit model will be much cheaper than the Skyworks version - by a few hundred dollars - and look all the better
