Willys Jeep question

Post by AJWW2 » Wed Nov 21, 2012 5:55 am

First of all, are Welly jeeps good? They practically seem the same as gate ones.

Second, anyone know to approximate height of the main tube/bar holding up the 30 cal mount on a willys?

As to the .30 pedestal mount, if you want to count rivets you can google to get actual dimensions but the height could vary because there was more than one type of pedestal and the different mg mounts siting on the pedestal holding the mg.

A rule of thumb is to have the mg barrel clear the top of the windshield when the windshield was erect and the gun was pointed forward.

This changed when a M-48 (I think that was the number) mg mount was used which was only for the .30 cal and was a mount attaching to the glove box and fired forward by the passenger with the windshield either removed or perpetually down.

And don't forget field mods which changed everything.

Sometimes I am the windshield, sometimes, I am the bug.
