Matthew, that looks good. I've got a few halftracks I can cut up for a custom like this. Closed static doors might be the way to go. Keep us updated.

Re: Sdkfz Customs in 1/18 scale
I see the Horten wrapping up in the next couple of weeks so it is time to dust off this post.
I will start with the " C ' conversion.
I did not add this to the list but I am thinking of the 251/8 ambulance to be the fallow up.
Interest ?
Here is the " C " build.

I voted for the SfKfz 251/23 with the 222 turret.
Very much like the SdKfz 250/9 with the 222 turret....... Hint....

I would like to have the SfKfz 251 kit with opening doors.I don't like "dummy" doors.

Same for me.TankAce wrote:I would like to have the SfKfz 251 kit with opening doors.I don't like "dummy" doors.
BTW, I voted for the 251/9 Short barrel cannon Panzer III type. My second choice was the radio version.

Re: Sdkfz Customs in 1/18 scale
There can be 23 versions of the 251. 45 if you chose to convert the available D's to C's.
With almost 45 different models , almost everybody could add to there collection with a fleet of 251s!!!
The workhorse of the German Army
The 251/23 was late war using the 222 style turret. There is talk if this version was a paper panzer or not ( ? )
The C version is almost ready for the moulding process.
Then I think this may be the order of appearance.
Because I want to do the easiest first to get them out fast
Radio
Ambulance
Flame thrower.
Now considering that the 251/23 could be a paper panzer. Again there is conjecture. I do have the 222 turret made and I do have to make a new mould for it. I could make the mount for it ( cover the top ) and this mod could be read to make in about a day !!!!!
Models of the 251/23 turret seam to be a little elongated which would you guys prefer ?
The short barrel cannon version will be the last depending on the popularity of this line of mods.
I was going to extend my Russian line of builds but it seams that the interest or money ran out.
I would have loved to have built the Su-85 and GAZ trucks !!

Re: Sdkfz Customs in 1/18 scale
I tell you guys after looking hard and long at the 251/23 version ( 222 turret )
that could be my first variant !
I have the 222 turret made already and all I would have to do is make a top for the APC !!!
After the " C " variant this could be the one two punch for the 251.
Also I have struck a deal with GRUNT 1 and he has given me permission to copy his PAK 3.7 !!!
So that variant will be ready very quickly as well.
Things are looking up in the 1/18 scale armour world.
Of course after the Horten.
Will that project ever finish ?

Re: Sdkfz Customs in 1/18 scale
I'm interested in an Ambulance, or something pretty wildly different like that 222 Turreted one... I have one just chilling out here, and maybe it's time to put it to use?

Re: Sdkfz Customs in 1/18 scale
I like the look of the 251 / 23, I'd definitely go for that custom along with a few C conversion kits with opening doors.
I do have a few 251's but now looking at the possibilities of 23 variants..... I think I'll need a few more.
So 21st is out of the question and I guess JSI is too.........hmmm..... who's got the molds?

It took me about 10 hours to make those hinges.
They function. The doors open and close

Re: Sdkfz Customs in 1/18 scale
Those conversions look awesome!! I would love one of those but their were also 4 votes for the IR 251!! It would be a cool addition and all you would have to cast is the equipment! There is already 4 votes for it and it seems to be the easiest of the conversions.
Plus this could be two project in one as the same equipment is used to make the IR Panther!!

These are the type of disscusions I like to sit back and watch, really does'nt matter, I'm sure I'll benefit either way
Please just make the doors open , if you do the earlier 251.

Here is an interesting link with 251 stuff.
http://www.pietvanhees.nl/251/illustrations.htm
Here are the aiming sights that were used on the Stuka. There were 2 types this type and strait. Any need for these or are they insignificant ?
Est price $5

Re: 1/18 Scale Custom Sdkfz 251 Stuka Aiming Sights Needed
As far as the IR version, I was not voting for the version with the huge search light in the rear, just the scopes and IR lights up front for the driver and gunner. The Huge search light was not on every one, it may have only been on one or two and it is highly detailed. Thats my 2 cents

Would the huge lite work in conjunction with panthers? I hear that IR 251s would work with IR panthers, how so?

Re: 1/18 Scale Custom Sdkfz 251 Stuka Aiming Sights Needed
I think that they shined the mega light on the target and the Panthers moved in on it.
The infrared being undetected by the human high would illuminate the target by its intensity making it easier to pick up on the smaller scopes.
Going with the smaller scopes only could limit the mod sell.
Going with the bigger light would possibly increase sells.
But the big light does have lots of details and when i is time to start I will ask for a show of hands.
If it does not reach my minimum you know what happens.
