aferguson wrote:they definitely still have the p-51 mold. The others i doubt. Only the P-51 would be a good release for this movie. Most buyers aren't going to be as interested in redtail thunderbolts and p-40's.

The Mustang and 109 would be good releases though, if they could be marketed right. Maybe the 262 as well. But i think AG only has access to the Mustang anymore.

It would be nice if they had put thunderbolts in the movie too, since they have p-40's but it doesn't look like it. The scene in the trailer with a Mustang strafing the german destroyer: well, that really happened and the destroyer was sunk, but it was a P-47 that did the strafing not a P-51.
Good to know (about the factual P-47 strarfing vs. the fictional P-51 movie strafing).
Which ever combo of planes released, I just hope All Go can take advantage of this, by the time the movie debuts. Whether its a Mustang + 109 combo. Or a three P-51, P-47, P-40 combo (with maybe the latter two churned-out in much lesser quantities, for rarity and collectors' sake). Which ever combo of planes, I just hope All Go takes this opportunity to help get their ball rolling for them. Hopefully this movie can give All Go that much needed boost.

There won't be a release of a 1:18 P-40 Warhawk in Tuskeegee markings unless someone makes a later P-40 mold. All 21stC did was the P-40B/C Tomahawk, which is an early version, and not like flown by the airmen.

I see what looks like P40E's in the trailer, but see P-40F's with the Packard Merlin engine and no upper nose scoop in SDCC73's profile pics, but I also see pics of them posing next to a P-40E.
They were in Operation Torch so most likely flew the E's as well as the lighter and better at high altitude F's no?.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:02090 ... 9b-098.jpg

It would be nice to get a pre-built version of any of these later P-40 Warhawks in 1:18, preferably the P-40E, though I'd also settle for one in 1:32 pleeze. That and the P-51B/C, which they also flew, have not been realized in 1:18 yet.

Dauntless. Thanks for pointing what I may or may not be missing. Can the 21st P-40B/C pass for a P-40C? I guess the source of my confusion lies between the possible difference between these two - the P-40B/C versus the solely called P-40C. Airmen did fly in what reports document was a P-40C = http://www.accident-report.com/world/na ... kegee.html

Yeah looks like they flew some C's. Basically the same as the B model Tomahawk. I should have said "in combat"
From your link there, they were flown in training. There's some other training aircraft there like AT-6's etc.
That's an accident report. I'm sure other air group reports look similar and many pilots probably trained in the C, as it was obsolete and replaced in combat by the Warhawk.

The P-40E Warhawk and beyond looks quite different than the B/C Tomahawk, and would take quite some modification to look like a Warhawk, though Skyworks and Picklehaube have done the mod kits.

Thanks for clarifying the similarities with the B and C model. I myself keep seeing those as both B/C together, and C sometimes by itself; so it can get really confusing given their also visually very similar. Even more confusing is that new trailer showing only later model P-40s the airmen clearly used in both this upcoming fictional movie and the factual Operation Torch; so its easy for anyone to believe the airmen only used those latter P-40 models.

One of many great squadrons of WW2. I hope they stay true to history and do not just make stuff up...honestly they do not have to on this one.

Hopefully 21st/All-Go still has the mold for the P-47D. If so, then they should be able to crank out the first ever Red Tails plane.

What's the chance of one of our customozers taking a P-47 or P-51 and painting it with the red tail colors?

I for one have been waiting for this movie by Spielburg for a couple of years since the movie was first mentioned.

Fact - Not a single American bomber was lost on any flight mission guarded by the Red Tails.

Cool beans.

Nah, no matter how good it is, I flat refuse to pay $12 to $20 for a movie seat, sitting with morons talking and cell phone going off. I will wait for the Blue Ray DVD.

actually TTT, that's not true. It's a myth that was started by a wartime magazine artcle. Since then, researchers have documented at least 25 US bombers shot down, that were escorted by the Red Tails. Still, they have the fewest lost bombers of any unit of WWII, and by a wide margin, so it's no less impressive an accomplishment.

It's interesting to read that fine print underneath the P-47. So the airmen got "hand me downs" and only had the Thunderbolts for a little while.
Speculating, but they probably got the same in the P-51B/C, which even though had less visibility in a dogfight was probably a welcome hand me down before they finally got those P-51D's they are famous for protecting the bombers with.

I'll bet someone can repaint one of those 21stC P-47 Razorbacks into a Redtail. Right about the time the movie comes out and make some easy cash. More than the usual will be looking for the 21stC P-51D "Bunny" Tuskeegee version around then and pay through the nose if someone doesn't re-issue it, which would be a good idea and a sure money maker. Someone want to write a letter to Lucasfilm?

Any volunteers to write a plain letter, a well crafted email, or friendly phone call - coming from us regular customers and professional e-tailers alike (the latter most especially)? Showing there's already interest + customers, might be a good start. Anyone good at photoshop, can cut + paste the "Red Tails" logo, and apply it on a 21st century Toy box of a P-51, P-40, or P-47, or all the above? I think you e-tailers onboard should especially make contact. You e-tailers add much more sway, professionally showing an eagerness to supply an anticipated demand, for such movie toy products.

^^^ I did mention it on the "in the pipeline" section of the AllGo site, where you can leave comments. Hopefully they might be considering it, since they will possibly be releasing quite a few nose art P-51D's. At least in 1:32 which they've not done one yet, if not a re-release 1:18 also.

Don't think there's a copyright on the Tuskeegee airmen. They could do it on their own and get noticed by the the big shots like George Lucas no?

Then George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Peter Jackson, all WWII fans could go in on it and invest in AllGo, and we have an unlimited supply of planes and armor again.....hey I can dream.

Dauntless, as funny as it sounds I wonder if Hanks, Lucas or any of them ever heard of 21st/AllGo and their WWII 1:18 line? I still see 1:18 being sold at model shows and folks seeing it for the first time. You might be on to something.... 8)

...yeah I'll bet if they actually saw one of those planes put together sitting in front of them on their desk, they would be impressed by the awesomeness of the detail and size of a kid's toy.
Not to mention the plane and figure is the same scale as George's partner in toys Star Wars Hasbro.

I think Mr. Lucas needs a gift of a P-51D "Bunny"....just how to get it to him though.

"Help us Mr. Lucas, you're our only hope"

Sent off a nice brief email to the Lucasfilm, above. Dauntless posted on the All Go website, as he stated. Anyone good at writing a plain letter, want to send Lucasfilm a request for such toy products to their brick and motar address above? How 'bout any good conversationalist here who want to call the Lucasfilm phone number? Any collectors, etailers, out there - want to see some 1:18 happen?

Newer Redtails trailer. More P-40's in this one:
http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=31815

Linked it from PanzerArm's (thanks) movie thread.

edit: They did manage to shoot down a few BF109's and FW190's with P-40's Warhawks. I suspect it was with the better performing "L" model with the Packard Merlin.

That's cool, anything we can do is helpful. BTW, you can "like" Redtails on Facebook now. Besides getting updates on the latest, there's been comments on the various planes used etc.

I mentioned "how about some toys?" and the 21stC "Bunny" complete with African American Pilot that "used" to be available.

Check out this video of ILM Lucasfilm special effects studio.
An interview about the effects in the 2009 Star Trek movie, there's a 21st Century Toys P-51 Redtail and a BBI Blackhawk hanging from the ceiling. 8)

Someone there knows about 1:18, and they were probably used for reference or scanned for digital shots no?
